The Dame has a new cd out called The Performance, with tracks penned by the likes of John Barry, the Manic Street Preachers, Gary Barlow and the Pet Shop Boys. Among the wonderfully grandiose ballads and jazzy tunes there's an amazing, totally 70's disco number called "Apartment". This is no contempo house-esque false facsimile but a real thing, with a Santa Esmeralda-style flamenco guitar, even. The track alone is worth the price of the cd, not that the rest of the songs are anything but brilliant, either.

Hey Jussik Great shout..I saw DSB getting interviewed on TV here on the Paul O'Grady show...what a star she is...I sat open mouthed watching her ..previously I hadn't paid much attention to this artist...but boy she has got IT !!!!
and the highlight was the song Apartment..with its Copacabana feel ...I got it on a FREE CD with the 'Daily Mail on Sunday' newspaper...well worth the chip paper to get the CD.....:icon_lol:

Hi to all Dame Shirl. fans out there !!
To celebrate The Dames' 75th Birthday BBC Radio 2 have just broadcast a revised 2 - part documentary on her called , aptly , ' Bassey'.
The second part , which has lots of background info. on her later career and the 'Performance' album , is still on the BBC iplayer for a couple more days . Catch it while you can.
It's fascinating stuff.
