One upon a time there was a thread on this board where we discussed absolute camp Disco records. I mentioned "Das Jodelding" from Disco Fritz & His Sauerkrauts which was a very popular novelty record in the late 70's.
I'm sure nobody here has ever heard it (maybe Needlefingers when he was in Germany) and I'm also very sure that a lot of you, who clicked on the vid, wished they would never have heard it. For all those years it was nowhere to be found on the net but now it is. This was 1977, long before Austrian group Edelweiss charted with their comedy!
But...for scientific and historic purposes I'm posting it without fear!
Have fun with it, don't take it serious and remember: a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down!
OMG, that sounds horrible in my ears :icon_razz:
Everything has its good and its bad sides. This is a good example for the bad side of disco :icon_mrgreen:
I agree with funkychris. Horrible. Those are the songs that give disco a bad name.
You know what amazes me? This record did have an American release (In Europe it came out on the BARCLAY label). I even found a 2000 playlist from a radio station in Minneapolis where it was aired, so it must be known over there.

1. This certainly wasn't played in clubs. It was a novelty record that only was big in the charts.
You can find it on this album (look at the other artists on the sleeve!)
2. This is what we call an Après-Ski track. After a cold day of wintersports you go to the cozy bar with your friends, you have your beer and schnaps, you have a lot of beer and schnaps, people get drunk, start dancing on tables fired up by a DJ who plays nothing than campy stuff like this. People return home after their holiday which over here is in the Mardi Gras period and they want to continue the fun with the tracks they heard when on vacation.
The most popular track on those Après-Ski bashes usually becomes a big hit.
And that's the story about this one. This came out during the Disco period, actual Après-Ski hits follow House and Techno rhythms. The clever producers know what the public in that year likes to hear.
So here you have a Disco-Reggae rhythm (popular Dance in 1977) and for the fun part you mix in the German folkmusic vocals.
Like I mentioned, the group Edelweiss did exactly the same thing but in the nineties the underlaying track was House and scratching which was hugely popular in those years.
I remember this song although I don't have a copy today. Thanks VS.
I don't think it's that bad. It does sound like something from a Benny Hill skit.
Go to youtube and and look up early Giorgio stuff. Didn't he once do Ma Na Ma Na?
