superman was born
came into my life like a fire
flying to the moon
[insert forgotten line here]
even going higher
i know it's just a matter of time
i'm trying just as hard as i can
to get my superman
oh oh oh superman
yes i am
i'm gunna make you love me!
i beleive i have most of these words correct. about 1980? female singer. any ideas anyone? tried this post before but with no luck...
experimental musician Laurie Anderson had a surprise in 1981 with "O Superman".
I don't know the lyrics but it was a very ambient sounding song and definetely as far from disco as you can imagine.
Could that be the one??
Definitely not Laurie Anderson. Sorry I can't help any further.
"Superman" by Dutch disco group Vulcano (1981), by any chance?
the kinks did a superman song. maybe thats the one your looking for
What's the group on a small Canadian label that did "Superman (He's My Hero)"? Someone just asked about this not too long ago. Of course, I can't find the post. :x
Also, "Superman" by Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch.
Different lyrics though.
ok, here's who it's not...
not celi bee
not the kinks
not laurie anderson
dutch group vulcano???
don't think so but haven't heard it and can't find it.
i've actually thought and thought on this and think it might have been even earlier by about 5 years! so my 1980 guess might have been out. the song made the radio in australia because i know i *never* bought the album (vinyl) or heard it on cd so can anyone think back a tad earlier? this one is driving me nuts! i'vetried all the oz hit lists and can't find it there either. one hit wonder???
"old age brings many fond memories; sometimes of things that actually happened"
Well, I checked out ("You're My) Superhero" (the correct title) and it's not the one you want.Originally Written by NickNack
This posting from almost a year ago popped into my head (memory's a wonderful thing) again when I recently came across a song called "I'm Your Superman" by Jan Leslie Holmes (12" Disco Mix version, 1984)Originally Written by phaze
Is it this one by any chance? Are you still around, phaze?
I think it may be Alison McCallum who first released the single in 1972 and acoustic version. Then it 1979 the record company released it to cash in on the Superman movie release. Writen by Vanda and Young.
discodevil you're a bloody ripper! :P
tried a google search on +alison.mccallum +superman and low and behold, the first result back listed all of the lyrics so i could confirm it immediately. just my luck it would appear it was an australian artist who didn't crack it OS which is where i have spent all my time looking. and the answer was from another gold coaster? how bizarre!
i went straight up the road to the second hand record store and there it was on vinyl from 1972. the only sad thing is, i remembered it sounding way better in my head for some reason. lol
i think the version i rememember was the rerelease in 1979 so my next effort will be to get my hands on that. thanks to all for your help on this one.
*old age brings many fond memories. sometimes of things that actually happened!*
Thats great! I think the 1979 version must have been reworked. Hope you find it! By the way what is a good second hand record store on the Gold Coast!
try atlantis music in scarborough street southport opposite suncorp (huge huge range of old 12 inch disco releases) or on the suncorp side, about 5 shops north but upstairs is another one, nowhere near as big a range but some really old wierd stuff but i can't remember the name of it even though that's where i bought the vinyl!
statement * old age brings many fond memories.
question * does it? i can't seem to remember!
