Windows 7 has disabled my dvd drives!

Can anyone out there give me some ideas on why, after installing Windows 7 on my 3 month old computor,my dvd drive rejects any blank dvd's-telling me to insert a blank disc?
I have-uninstalled and re installed the drives
    run virus scans-all is good
tried three different brands of blank dvd's
went through the whole Microsoft search and fix wizard-it says problem cannot be resolved
It worked fine before this "upgrade" to Windows 7

    Thanks! thom

    Thom, maybe this is useful:

I've just upgraded to Vista with a free option for 7 but I'll wait.

doesn't that kinda stuff drive you nuts? I get the same thing on my Panasonic DVD recorder/VCR combo. I'll put in a blank DVD to record a TV show and it says "check the disc" or "there may be a problem with the disc" and I often get the same message when I try to watch a pre-recorded DVD I've been watching for years. And even when I DON'T get that message after putting in a new, blank DVD and recording a show (the red "recording" light works fine), when I try to finalize the disc, I get the crazy messages again. I'll never buy a Panasonic product again. I wish I had the technical knowledge to manufacture electronic devices and computer software that is dependable and that people can use and not waste their hard earned money on....

Cory, I had that same problem with a Sony DVD Recorder and I junked it for a Panasonic! LOL!!

I read somewhere that on the Sony, you can't remove the DVD from the recorder before you finalize. I also found that if you get too close to the maximum recording time on the disc, the Sony recorder won't let you finalize. I don't have that problem on the Panasonic.

I'm not going any where near Windows 7 until I know all the bugs are worked out! I'll suffer with Vista for a little longer!

Thanks Video-Unfortunately,these didn't work either.I'm wondering if I should reinstall everything-what a headache! And to make matters worse,
I keep seeing that commercial about changing/upgrading Windows while
the Mac user never has to do anything-which several people warned me about."Why don't you get a Mac?"-but I wanted to stick with what I knew. And I hated Vista and bitched about it endlessly-and look at me now! Bummer!

Speaking as someone who has owned a Mac for three years, I can confidently state that Apple's claims are NOT true.

Snow Leopard, which is supposed to be a "no new features, just optimization" update, disabled my audio interface, and now I have regular graphic glitches. And don't get me started on Apple's constant revising of the AU standard which often breaks my third-party software plug-ins.

The fact is that any time you make changes to a computer's operating system, things are going to break. Even Apple, which only makes a half a dozen different basic configurations at a time (compared to the infinite possibilities with PCs) still blows stuff up from time to time.

Thanks Bruno-that cheered me up(really!) You never hear Mac people
being so honest-they're always so damn cockly!
OK,I figured out that the drive doesn't recognize anything at all-not even a recorded disc or movie. When I put in anything,I can't click
on play etc...yet it opens and closes.I'm really stumped......

I'm sorry you're having those problems but I do appreciate your sharing them here because I was actually considering trying Windows 7. I remember the night before it was released, there was a news crew at a local electronics store and they were wondering why people were not lined up 6 hours before the store opened the next day to be first in line to buy 7 (the way people sometimes do for "hot" software) and people said they wanted to wait until it was on the market for awhile to see how it performed before buying it. It's my opinion that software manufacturers should allow people to use new software on a trial basis before deciding to buy, the way Rosetta Stone sends interested buyers a "trial" DVD free of charge. 11/26/09

Thanks Corey-The thing is maybe 7 is good it just disabled something with all the updates I've been getting. There are some positive things about 7
that I like(it's faster)-I just wish there was better service techs to answer
questions.Remember when you could call a number and someone from America picked up the phone and know the answer? And I don't care
if they're from Transylvania-as long as I can understand them and they can actually answer questions!
