It's really one of the greatest Hi-NRG 80s bands, and still remains!!! But I was striked by "FAN THE FLAME II. The Acoustic Session". Petes' voice is more powerful then I used to think.
On of the greatest Hi-NRG 80s bands.
Their 12" mixes are to die for!
You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)
Brand New Lover
My Heart Goes Bang!
Something In My House
Lover Come Back To Me
Turn Around & Count 2 Ten
Classic Hi-NRG :)

Dead or Alive release a 'best of' compilation here in the UK on 26th May 2003 called 'Evolution' which is fab news for DOA fans (including me); however, I must warn you that it includes a new house-type remix of 'You Spin Me Round' :( but I shall still be buying it as my copies of 'Youthquake' & 'Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know' are warn out!
...ya gotta beat the street......
I loved Dead or Alive too, I still can't believe they were produced by PWL !
I'm certainly not as knowledgeable about them as u r, but I only have fond memories of "You Spin Me Round" & "Something In My House" (which are still extremely listenable today). They possibly were the best PWL act along with Kylie.
My dear Vodkatonique (love that name!), the best PWL act is undoubtedly Mel & Kim as they introduced commercial house music to the masses in '86 & also recreated the gay disco sound of NY '79 for a new young audience with new production techniques IMO! (u can tell I luv 'em)

Hey Steely Dan, I'm a huge DOA fan too, and I really warmed to the Metro mix of YSMR - just a pity it performed so badly on the charts - single and album.Originally Written by Steely Dan
There is a DVD coming out at the end of June too - Pete has he is going to try and cram as much stuff on there as possible - promo's, TV show performances, out-takes etc - I can't wait :D
That's good news MiaBocca. Pete Burns is one of the few real 'characters' left in music; he's so visual but is also fearless when it comes to saying what he thinks about anything, & this, coupled with the fab music makes for a very entertining act. I'm getting that DVD as soon as I can!

:)
Over here in Australia, you spin me 03 only got to no.62. What a surprise considering most of the **** thats clogging up the charts these days. Dead Or Alive are a hugely underated dance band and I admire Pete for being so out there in the 80s. And considering he has a wife, he really does break down barriers. the original is tons better than the remake though, but i did buy it to support them
Like u boogie nites, I think D.O.A.are under-rated & I also admire Pete Burns so much but dont feel too sorry for them as they are the best-selling group in Japan of all time, even out-selling the Beatles!! :o
...ya gotta beat the street......
rock on steely dan!!LETS ROCK!! ("Come Home With me Baby")
It might just be my ears, but Pete sounded like a great crooner from the musical ages before over a riverting NRGetic rhythm section...just listen to Brand New Lover...
As well, DOA stand out significantly from other PWL acts as it was they themselves that wrote all of their own material and had SAW produce it.
Vincent
There were actually a few acts who were produced by SAW/PWL but wrote their own material such as Brilliant, Morgan McVey & Blue Mercedes. I really loved SAW when they were a cool & innovative ('84 - '87) production team before the 'Kylie & Jason' years when they became this sort of production line 'hit factory' that was a bit of a parody of itself. :(
...ya gotta beat the street......
Hey Steely, I forgot about Brilliant (which I shouldn't have) and Blue Mercedes (was that without Pete ?), but I guess the next step is going to be when the PWL thread will get started..
Long live Suzette Charles.
