Several months ago, many of you helped me identify LUST by RINDER and LEWIS.
I still have not found the version that is played in the movie. The movie was shot in super 8 and in 1979 so it is hard for me to get a good audio rip.
In any event, here it is, please listen and check it out around 23 seconds... it sounds like someone is saying "TOGETHER" or "FOREVER"... what version of LUST is this? I have contacted the director and the main protagonist of the movie and they don't know.

To me it sounds like a mix-tape is playing....not an alternate version of Lust. Thinking about the time the movie was made, and the fact that mix-tapes were plentiful and would have been played on a cassette player in the background, it seems logical. It may have even been the Hot Disco Fever LP (1978) which was an AVI compilation LP that featured "Lust"?
Thanks for getting back to me... I really want to find this mix. The movie was made between 1978 - 79. Did mixtapes exist?
On the youtube clip, the sound file has been looped, you hear the same guys saying the same things at least a couple of times, all I hear is the regular version of "LUST" playing in the background. If you want the longer version of "Lust" get the CD compilation Disco 54 The AVI Collection.
There is no vocal version of "Lust" that I'm aware of. It could be someone in the background saying something that sounds like it's part of the song.

This is a mixed version... if you listen at the 24 second mark, you here content in the song.
This is driving me crazy...
Thanks for your help - everyone!
I don't have this, but I'm told by someone who does that it's just the album versions.
To the best of my knowledge -- and I've been hunting R&L material for years -- there is only one mix of "Lust". The original 12" and LP version are one and the same. Certain reissues of it (various Unidisc editions, "The AVI Collection" compilation) go on for a couple of minutes longer, but it's still the same version, just more of it.
My friend....this was the era when mixtapes were invented (for all intents and purposes). Cassettes of premium DJs could sell for as high as 100 dollars each. In 1978 dollars. Think about that one for a minute......!!:icon_eek:
Trust us, there is no Lust vocal version. You are hearing it with another song playing mixed in with it. That is actually why I thought it may be the Hot Disco Night Album.....but then I checked and Lust is the first track- so no mixing into it- just out of it.
But that just makes it a mixtape that somebody made. This is a low-budget movie. They didnt get master tape rights and audio clearances. They had somebody with a boombox or other cassette player feeding the music in.....
Well... I guess I will be content with that. I may have to mix my own version. :icon_cool:
Thanks to everybody who got back to me... I'm doing a writing project about NYC in the 70s, and this music has been a huge inspiration.
Be sure to scope out some hip-hop DJs. They were playing as much Disco Music as anybody was at the time. Disco and the development of Hip-Hop go hand in hand. Some hate to admit this, but it is fact.
Also, and this is hard- I'll admit. Be wary. One of the interesting facts of life is that the guys who are still around get to tell the story their way.
And that way just may not be accurate. A lot of people on this board were there and if you read around you will find some GREAT SOURCES here. Some people here can refer you to other people.
One thing? Remember not to filter the events you are being told thru 2009 eyes. It was a very different world.......
Lean on people in the actual age group who would have been culturally aware in the 1970's and not the historians who may know the time period- but not understand the nuances....the smells, the sounds, the feel.
GOOD LUCK.
