Exclamation The Power of Youtube (I think I will faint...)

A few minutes ago, I've posted a 2 minute excerpt of a song for an identification quiz. It's a 1979 song originally issued on CBS.

So far, everything was plain and simple:
    • A 2 minute excerpt of a 7:12 song was loaded
    • "Piste2" was the given filename
    • No description was given.
    • No comment was given.
    • No tag was given to the file
    Here is the freaky part:

3 minutes after the file was processed, I got an email saying this:

"Your video, Piste2, may have content that is owned or licensed by Sony Music Entertainment.
No action is required on your part; however, if you are interested in learning how this affects your video, please visit the Content ID Matches section of your account for more information.
As a result, your video is blocked in these locations:

    Germany."

Does anyone knows if this is a coincidence of if Youtube really passes every post through sound recognition software?

    Nevermind!

I got my answer a few minutes later just by watching my Youtube post.

Believe it or not, Youtube trapped, recognized and displayed the Artist, Title and Album for my 2 minute sample. As a bonus, there is a nice "BUY NOW" button which directs you straight to iTunes.

I don't know if I like this or not :icon_confused:.

George Orwell's, you really scare the sh*t of me.

I know for sure that it ruined the mood to my song identification quiz...

You can't have a quiz, without telling us the answer..... Even if we don't know the question. :icon_question:

Out of curiosity, what was the Title/Artist?

Nothing too difficult for the average Disco addict:

    Tell Everybody - Herbie Hancock

Originally released on CBS that eventually became...Sony Music.

YouTube, Myspace and many other social networks use special software to detect copyrighted stuff. I think it depends a little bit on the policy of the record firm. Some firms are strict in using their material, others are not. Some let you post but force you to block the embedding feature.

It is spooky but it seems to work. Accounts that neglect those commands are closed without further notice. Try to upload something by Prince and you will get a note from his lawyers within 48 hours! That's even worse! And they WILL sue ya!
