Back in the day of the Disco 7 inch single

HERE I WILL PRESENT SOME OF THE SONGS THAT I WOULD PLAY MOSTLY ON 45 FROM "BACK IN THE DAY". I STARTED PLAYING IN 1973, I WOULD BUY 2 COPIES OF EVERY 45 OR LP THAT I WAS PLAYING. THE SONGS WERE TOO SHORT, SO THIS IS WHERE I LEARNED TO REMIX AND EXTEND THE SONG. I COULD NOT LIVE WITOUT 2 COPIES.
HERE IS A GEM OF SONG FROM THE TEMPTATIONS - "LAW OF THE LAND"

The Temptations "Law Of The Land"

EACH DAY I WILL PRESENT TO YOU SONGS FROM THIS FIRST GENERATION DJ.

    ENJOY

thanks for the "early days" spins, Pooch, and I'm sure you were glad when Scepter Records started putting extended mixes on 45s.

Nice tracks. Definitely keep them coming. I'm always interested in learning about a new track from the old days that was a DJ's favourite.

I've been finding a few extended mixes that were released on 7in at 33 1/3. Like Philly Devotions - Hurt So Bad and Vast Majority's Love For Sale. I think Once You Hit The Road, the extended 7in version was also 33 1/3.

Great track Pooch. I love the O'Jays. Its very Philly and classic O'Jay but I kind of think its a bit too slow for dancing too. Maybe touch dancing but that's about it I think, but nonetheless, a great track. Why don't they make great music like this anymore?

Well for today we have a super classic. This is a two part record with a part 1 on the A-side and part 2 on the B-side. It is obvious that you cannot play this tune without having two copies.
Marvin Gaye - "Got To Give It Up"

Marvin Gaye "got to give it up" pt 1 & 2

    Hey Remicks!
Very Happy you are part of this thread!!!
I am familiar with "Supership" but it never did anything for the floor. I do not think that I have a copy of this any longer. Thanks for the post and I hope you are enjoying some of the tunes from BITD.

The backing track for this song had enough fuel left over to be reused by the person who produced this version by The Ambitions the next year. No producer credits were on the single, but it's pretty clear its the same Sigma Sound guys, AKA MFSB, playing on the cut.

Scientist, I am very happy you are enjoying this post!!! Yes, I have read "Love Saves The Day". Are you asking for my opinion?

Disco Funk, that is not as good as the original. I have never heard this version bt it is clear that you are right. All stolen from Executive Suite. I am glad you have taken part in this post.
    Thanks to both of you.:icon_cool:

    Hi Pooch

Yes, I would be very interested in your opinion of the book Love Saves the Day.

Heres a tune I remember from my early disco nights

Re: Back in the day of the Disco 7 inch single

Well, over all I guess the book gave some good history from BITD. BUT, I was very sad to see that so much was left out. I spent 6 hours on that interview with Tim. He wrote very little about my experience and nothing about the DJ's i spoke about in Brooklyn and Queens. He did mention that I went to England and played. But failed to say that I was there 6 times on tour and gave that country mixing. It seems that every book that is written always has a focus on the NY City scene and we read about the same Dj's all the time. Barry Lederer (RIP) was the only person plannig a book about the Disco scene in the Boros of NY.
We cannot forget DJ's like, Ralphie Dee, Danny Cole, Gary Baxter,
Jimmy Yu, Bacho Mangual, Ron Rogers, Richie Conte, Mike Pace, Jimmy Monte, Mark Zimmer, Joe Giacalone, Rick Coscia just to name a few.
But, this is not the place for me to ramble on, this is the place for the music from BITD, the 45 time.
Oh, and I love that Fatback Band tune. :icon_razz: With that, I give you another classic gem by the Fatback Band - - - -
"Street Dance", an absolute floor filler!!!

I love the songs you are posting here. FYI. Mike Pace from L'amour Disco in Brooklyn. He taught me my skills.... I always wondered why they never talked about the outer borough DJ's .....Here is one for you....

Hi Pooch, Thanks for sharing your views. It was probably inevitable that lots of information got left out. I sensed that the author did lots of research and even if he didnt directly use your interviews, the spirit of what you said was carried into the book. BTW, I've never met Tim.
I would like to learn more the scene in the NY Boros from bitd and the DJs you have listed. Perhaps this site might publish an article if you wrote something ? Or how about writing about your visits to the UK - you are a legend over here !

Heres another gem from 1975 which I fondly remember. I cant find the clip from Soul Train so this will have to do. Philly magic

Raz, I lovin the Four tops jam, Thanks!!! So you know Mike Pace. We have to talk sometime. I remember when he played at Hadaar in Staten Island back in 73.
Scientist, Love the Archie Bell tunes, actually, I have a few others that I will bring up. Thanks for the mention of legend in the UK.

And so we continue to dig and continue to find gems from BITD.
Don Downing "Dream World" - - Damn, shame they never made a 12 inch of this.
