Re: 1977 Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts!!!

remmy--that is a good call. Maybe it was the Minnie Riperton "Stick Together" release that Moulton was touting as similar to Jimmy Ruffin's "Tell Me What You Want." It was indeed in the pipleline for release at that time.

BTW, I will start posting the February 19, 1977 chart tabulations this weekend. Finished tabulating them before I went on a vacation to the Midwest last week and now that I'm back I will start the typing.

Marky....count me in on your fan club. Your exhaustive, thorough work on these charts leaves me in awe.

I'm loving where we are in the charts right now because I'm seeing songs that appeared on all those K-tel and TeeVee disco albums that I bought in my mid-teens. These albums were my only real hints of this underground phenomenon happening in the big cities.

A question: is there only the 4 minute version of "Freedom To Express Yourself"? Is that all there is?

    25) (37) FREEDOM TO EXPRESS YOURSELF - Denise LaSalle
    (ABC LP: 4:00) P: Ordeana Enterprises w/Soultastic Inc. W: D. LaSalle

Hey dk- long time since we've communicated, hope you are well. Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.

The charts are a long slow process and I've neglected them lately--but I'm feeling the inspiration to move this forward in time to get to new records. T-Connection is just about to debut "Do What You Wanna Do" which will be HUGE!!!! I hope to finish the 2/19/77 info this weekend and I've already started the 2/26/77 chart. At least that's my goal. Sometimes things don't go as planned.....

I've not seen the Denise LaSalle track on a 12-inch---the 7-inch is 3:30 and the LP track is exactly 4:00---I don't think ABC Records was into the 12-inch at this point in time---don't recall seeing that label on a 12-inch thus far in my search--but I, of course, could be wrong.

Well by 1978--ABC did give Denise a 12-inch release:

All in good time....the pauses between just give us more time to peruse, analyze and come up with more inquiries.

I think there was also a cover of "Freedom..." by a male vocalist. There's a snippet of it on one of my "hot plate" medleys but I don't know who it is.

Re: 1977 Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts!!!

    Part #3: February 19, 1977

    By The Numbers......

THE DISCO COMPILATION CONSENSUS TOP 40--PURELY BY POINTS:

Using the chart data from all 16 charts, including Montreal. Based solely on point totals of individual titles; in cases of point ties, the title on more charts gets precedence--if # of charts is the same, it's in alphabetical order.

Legend: (B) = bundled with other titles by Billboard; (B/U) = "Bubbling Under the Top 40"
    * = Debut/ (R) = Return
    Perfect score = 240 maximum points (15 points for a #1 x 16 charts)

OK, now let's check to see where this week's charted items rank in the
    DISC-O-LA FORTUNE 500 ......

[first posted in the 3/26/76 column]

The rarefied air of the important CLASSIC records on the chart this week led me to take a look at their positions on the Disco-o-la Fortune 500 Discotheque Songs of the 70s list compiled by Ed Rothschild (with assistance from Johnny Tripp and Chipper McKearnin), that appears in its entirety in the back of Mel Cheren's book, Keep On Dancin': My Life and the Paradise Garage (2000); (Supposedly, this list came to fruition sometime in the Eighties; I don't know the specifics. The list goes back as early as the late Sixties for a few titles and then culls some from the early Seventies and stops at the end of
1979--no records from the Eighties are included--a few charted in 1980--but were actually released in late 1979)

Re: 1977 Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts!!!

    DISCO MIX

    By Tom Moulton

    February 19, 1977

[NEW YORK]The T.K. label has released two new 12-inch 33 1/3 r.p.m. disco disks. They are the T-Connection’s followup to “Disco Magic,” titled “Do What You Wanna Do,” and a release by Funk Machine titled “Funk Machine.”

In “Do What You Wanna Do,” the T-Connection has gone into a more R&B style and has added vocals as part of the act. However, there still remain many breaks that are reminiscent of the old T-Connection sound. These feature Moog synthesizer and bongos. The tune runs for about 7:15 minutes and has all the basic ingredients to be a big R&B hit.

The Funk Machine song is also styled in an R&B format and features several good breakdowns. The group now has more of a horn sound, and the song itself is constructed around a simple hook. The breaks lend interest to the tune and help add to the overall excitement

Friends & Co., distributed by Bullseye Records, has released a 12-inch 33 1/3 r.p.m. disco disk of Eddie Drennon’s classic “Let’s Do The Latin Hustle,” backed with the Manhattan Express’ “Bad Girl (Mala Femmena).” Both tunes have been remixed and are longer than the originals. The disk is also commercially available

Epic Records has released “You Take My Heart Away” by Laura Green on a 12-inch 33 1/3 r.p.m. disco disk. This is a very exciting song in spite of the fact that the artist’s vocals are almost lost in the track. This is also one of the best versions of the song to be done for discos. It embodies strong percussion throughout and at times displays a Latin style.

Re: 1977 Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts!!!

    What's It All About, Mar-keeey???

(Is it just for old disco we live???..... well IS it????)

Febuary 19, 1977: The Week In Disco

    "STATUS QUO AT THE DISCO"

The 3rd week of February, 1977 finds the same 3 records at the top of the Disco chart in the same 3 positions they have occupied for the past 3 weeks. Same As It Ever Was. [Sort of]

The Trammps hold at #1 for the 3rd week with 6 points less than last week:

#1: "DISCO INFERNO" (173 points (-6 from last week)/15 charts (+1 new chart)

    4 @#1 = Chicago/Dallas+Houston/Detroit/NYC
    3 @#2 = Atlanta/Boston/Pittsburgh
    3 @#3 = Baltimore+DC/LA+SD/Phoenix
    1 @#4 = Miami

    1 @#8 = San Francisco

2 @#11 = New Orleans & (charting for the first time:) Seattle
    1 @#14 = Philadelphia

    [NOT CHARTED: Montreal]

Next week: "Disco Inferno" has its best point score total and thereafter prepares to battle the record that will topple it from #1: T-Connection's "Do What You Wanna Do" which debuts in the Top 20 on Feb. 26.

Next week: "Disco Inferno" will actually achieve more points than "Don't Leave Me This Way" for the first time--even though it has been ranked #1 for 3 weeks.

Compare to the #2 record this week:

#2: "DON'T LEAVE ME THIS WAY" (192 points (-14 from last week)/15 charts)

    4 @ #1 = Miami/Philadelphia/Pittsburgh/Seattle
    5
    @ #2 = Baltimore+DC/Chicago/Dallas+Houston/Detroit/New Orleans
    1 @ #3 = NYC
    2 @ #4 = LA+SD/Montreal
    1 @ #6 = Boston
    1 @ #7 = Atlanta
    1 @ #10 = San Francisco

After 10 weeks of charting, Phoenix is the first city chart to drop Thelma Houston; trendy San Francisco will be the next one. Then sometime in the future--April 2, 1977, to be exact--Phoenix gives it another week!

So this week both The Trammps & Thelma Houston chart on 15 charts each and achieve #1 rankings on 4 charts each.
Also, Thelma Houston achieves a #1 on the Soul chart this week; she doesn't go #1 on the Pop chart until April 23, 1977.

"Disco Inferno" hasn't charted on the Soul chart yet; that happens on March 3, 1977--eventually peaks @ #9. On the Pop chart "Disco Inferno" will peak @ #53 this time out: re-charts 2/18/78 after the "Saturday Night Fever" LP is released and goes to #11.

And holding @#3 for the 3rd week is the Disco belter who out-belts all other Disco Divas: Miss Loleatta Holloway (can I get a scream, Loleatta?) "Dreamin'" [113 points/10 charts] is bundled with 2 other LP tracks "Hit & Run" + "Ripped Off" (both with 99 points on 8 charts.)

    __________________________________________________ _______________________

THE REST OF THE TOP 10

At the back end, 3 new titles enter the Top 10 this week:
#08) "Life Is Music/Lady Luck/Disco Blues" - The Ritchie Family (3rd week of charting-The ladies are beloved.)
#09) "Uptown Festival" - Shalamar (unknown group/4th week in Top 40 and charting on just 3 charts--but already #1 in LA!)
#10) "Six Million Dollar Man/Hurry Up And Wait/Been Decided" - The Originals (only their 2nd Top 40 week and already Top 10 due in large part to the huge success of their previous release "Down To Love Town." These titles are so-so at best--but the "Down To Love Town" LP has been released and discos are playing almost all the tracks.

In the middle: 2 versions of "Love In C Minor": the Cerrone original @ #6 and at #4--the only time it ranks higher than Cerrone--the cover version by Frankie Crocker's Heart & Soul Orchestra.

George McCrae @#5 and Silvetti @ #7 complete the Top 10.

    __________________________________________________ _____________________

THE REST OF THE TOP 40

The most notable Top 40 debut:

    16)**TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY - Barbara Pennington (Boston/LA+SD/SF + Montreal)
This gem finally crosses over to the Top 40 after 5 weeks in "Bubbling Under" positions solely due to San Francisco & Montreal chartings. Now Pennington expands to LA+SD & Boston charts and gets #16 for a nice Top 40 debut.

Here's where the chart HEAT is this week:

    HEAT UP
MOVIN' ON UP: Biggest Movers (chart positions)
+12 FREEDOM TO EXPRESS YOURSELF (moves from #37 up to #25)
+11 I'M YOUR BOOGIE MAN/KEEP IT COMIN' LOVE (moves from #38 up to #27)
+11 OPEN SESAME (moves from #28 up to #17)
    +10 SIX-MILLION DOLLAR MAN/HURRY UP AND WAIT/BEEN DECIDED (moves from #20 up to #10)
+07 TATTOO MAN (moves from #21 up to #14)
    +06 LIFE IS MUSIC/LADY LUCK/DISCO BLUES (moves from #14 up to #8)
    +06 UPTOWN FESTIVAL(moves from #15 up to #9)
    +05 DANCIN'/SEARCHING FOR LOVE/FAR OUT (moves from #18 up to #13)
+05 LOVE IN C MINOR (Heart & Soul Orchestra) (moves from #9 up to #4)

Some items above are anomalies of this week's chart-- not really trends-- better evidence is found here:

    HEAT UP:

BILLBOARD TOP 40 MAJOR POINT GAINERS: THE HEAT IS ON
+29 points from last week Love In C Minor - Heart & Soul Orchestra (from 49 points last week up to 78 points this week)
+21 points from last week Life Is Music (from 37 points last week up to 58 points this week)
+21 points from last week Disco Reggae (Tony's Groove) (from 2 points last week up to 23 points this week)
+18 points from last week Love In C Minor - Cerrone (from 49 points last week up to 67 points this week)
+18 points from last week Twenty-Four Hours A Day (from 19 points last week up to 37 points this week)
+16 points from last week Disco Blues (from 13 points last week up to 29 points this week)

+15 points from last week Tattoo Man (from 33 points last week up to 48 points this week)
+14 points from last week Six-Million Dollar Man (from 35 points last week up to 49 points this week)

On the downward/losing end this week:

    COOL DOWN:

BILLBOARD TOP 40 MAJOR POINT LOSERS: COOL IT DOWN
-34 points from last week Funk De Mambo (Dance To the Music) (from 41 points last week down to 7 points this week)
-26 points from last week Overture (from 51 points last week down to 24 points this week)
-25 points from last week O Ba Ba (from 42 points last week down to 17 points this week)
-24 points from last week Spring Rain (from 109 points last week down to 85 points this week)
-21 points from last week Indiscreet (from 38 points last week down to 17 points this week)
-20 points from last week That's The Trouble (from 53 points last week down to 33 points this week)
-18 points from last week Sorry (from 45 points last week down to 27 points this week)
-16 points from last week Givin' Back The Feeling (from 90 points last week down to 74 points this week)
-15 points from last week Elevator (from 28 points last week down to 13 points this week)
-14 points from last week Don't Leave Me This Way (from 206 points last week down to 192 points this week)

    __________________________________________________ ___________________

LET'S JUST KISS AND SAY GOODBYE

This week the Top 40 loses the classic "You + Me = Love" after 25 weeks. It "bubbles under" this week @ #70 where it has amassed 31 weeks in the Disco Compilation Consensus--first charting in July of 1976--about 6 weeks before the first national chart debuted.

Undisputed Truth's exit passes the long-run crown to The Emotions' "I Don't Wanna Lost Your Love" --still hangin' on @ #35--after 26 Top 40 weeks.

However this will be the last Top 40 week for:
"I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love," (26 weeks)
    "Dazz" (22 weeks),
    "Four Seasons Of Love" LP (20 weeks);
"I'm Your Boogie Man/Keep It Comin' Love" (16 weeks)
    & "I Don't Know What's On Your Mind/I've Learned From My Burns" (12 weeks)

Thanks for the memories but time to make room for fresh titles.

A Tale of Two "Minor" Loves

Instant Recap: 2 versions of "Love In C Minor" compete for disco love.

Here's the back story thus far:

    1/15/77: Cerrone debuts @ #15 in Montreal. (1 point/1 chart)
1/22/77: Cerrone adds New York City + Montreal--still "bubbling under" with 27 points/2 charts but already #1 in Montreal.
    1/29/77: Cerrone cracks the Top 40 for the first time @ #25; adding Baltimore+DC to NYC/Montreal (still #1); (38 points/3 charts)

    2/07/77: Cerrone adds Boston to Baltimore+DC/NYC/Montreal @ #12 (44 points/4 charts)
Note that Cerrone seems to be strictly east coast up to now...while H&S is hot on the other coast and in the middle:
    2/07/77: Heart & Soul Orchestra debuts @ #13 with 44 points--same as Cerrone-and 4 charts: Chicago/LA+SD/Philly/ San Francisco--OK Philly is east coast! [tongue out!]

    Last week:
    2/12/77: Cerrone cracks Top 10 @ #6; 49 points/5 charts = Baltimore+DC/Boston/Detroit/NYC/Montreal (Cerrone is #1 in Boston)
    2/12/77" H&S Orchestra cracks Top 10 @ #9 although it too has 49 points & 5 different charts: Chicago/LA+SD/Philly/Phoenix/SF
(H&S is already #1 in LA & SF-both west coast!)

    This week:
2/19/77: Cerrone holds @ #6 although adding 2 charts (Philly & Chicago) totaling 67 points on 7 charts. Chicago actually becomes the first city to change teams. After 2 weeks of charting Heart & Soul, it switches to Team Cerrone dumping Heart & Soul.
2/19/77: Heart & Soul moves up to #4 (the only time it's ranked higher than Cerrone)--with 8 charts (up from 5) and 78 points.

This week--for the first time--3 cities actually chart BOTH versions in their Top 15 charts:
    Those 3 are: LA+SD/NYC & Philly

So the final tally for 2/19/77:
    Team Cerrone: Baltimore+DC/Boston/Chicago (switching teams)/Detroit & the 3 above: LA+SD/NYC/Philly (67 points/ranked #6)
    Team H&S: Atlanta/Dallas+Houston/Phoenix/SF/Seattle & the 3 double-charters: LA+SD/NYC/Philly (78 points/ranked #4)

Next week, Cerrone starts to kick butt, nearly doubling this week's points and over-takes Heart & Soul which will remain in the subservient--but still Top 10 potent-- position from now on.

Playing all the records this week--Cerrone stands out to my ears as having that cliched disco jackhammer thump beat--I honestly thought maybe the downstairs neighbors were pounding on their ceiling with a baseball bat--telling me to turn it down. They were not. It's a jackhammer thump --without the soul of most of the rest of the records. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just my-- probably unpopular-- thought. ;-P

    WHAT'S NEW AT THE ZOO?

BEETHOVEN, AFRICAN BEATS, BELOVED GIRL GROUPS & some HARDCORE FUNK

    BEETHOVEN:

    29) * FOR ELISE - The Philarmonics (LA+SD/Phoenix)
    78) * CLASSICALLY ELISE - Dino Solera & The Munich Machine (Dallas+Houston)

What are the odds for 2 disco versions of Beethoven's "Fur Elise" [I don't know how to get that umlaut over the "u", sorry.] being released at the same time? Furthermore, what are the odds that they would BOTH hit the Disco charts on exactly the same week? The Philarmonics' version gets the Top 40 ranking; Dino Solera (a sax player) & the Munich Machine gets a "bubbling under" even though it has the prestigious "produced by Giorgio Moroder" on its label. I've listened to both on YouTube and they strike me as...

File under: Rooty, Tooty, Fresh & Fruity Disco:
See "Disco Lucy" and a disco cover of "The Way We Were" for further study.

    AFRICAN BEATS

    22) DISCO REGGAE (Tony's Groove) - Kalyan (Baltimore+DC/Detroit/LA+SD/Phoenix)
    55) HELLO AFRICA - Kalyan (Phoenix)
    55) NICE 'N' SLOW - Kalyan (Phoenix)
    57) MANGOUS YE - Black Soul (Boston/Detroit/NYC)
    62) JUNGLE PEOPLE - Soulful Dynamics (Montreal)
    73) THE WARRIOR/ KEEP ON TRYING - Osibisa (Baltimore+DC)
    74)
    BLACK BROTHER(S) - Black Soul
    (Boston/NYC)

I list the above titles as evidence of a wave of African beat-oriented titles that have worked their way unto the chart in the past few weeks. "Soul Makossa" paved the way....these titles keep the "tribal" in 1977 disco.

    BELOVED GIRL GROUPS:

    80) PEOPLE WITH FEELING - The Three Degrees (SF)
    89) I DID IT FOR LOVE - Love Unlimited (Dallas+Houston)

I just wanted to call attention to the new releases of 2 girl groups who have a big following--especially in the gay discos--but have had a hard time coming up with hits in the recent past few years. San Francisco however bravely charts 3D's "People With Feeling" and will do so for several weeks and Dallas+Houston likes the new Love Unlimited release to give it several chart weeks also.

Of course, The Ritchie Family is also a girl group--really a producer's group--but they have had big disco hits--so they don't count.
And I shouldn't forget The Supremes--still hanging in the Top 40 with their final releases--coasting on fumes at this point. But, after all, they are The Supremes!!! The Definitive Girl Group.

    AND SOME HARDCORE FUNK:

    17) OPEN SESAME (Groove With The Genie) - Kool & The Gang ( Chicago/Detroit/New Orleans/EVEN NYC)
    20) DAZZ - Brick (LA+SD/New Orleans/Seattle)
    33) FANCY DANCER - The Commodores (New Orleans)
    36) FUNK DE MAMBO (Dance To The Music) - Karma (LA+SD/New Orleans/SF)
    37) AT MIDNIGHT (My Love Will Lift You Up) -Rufus featuring Chaka Khan (Atlanta/Chicago)
    47) SHO' FEELS GOOD TO ME - Con Funk Shun (Seattle)
    61) GOTHAM CITY BOOGIE/INDIGO COUNTRY - Ultrafunk (Phoenix)
    84) RIGOR MORTIS - Cameo (Pittsburgh)
    85) TOO HOT TO STOP - The Bar-Kays (New Orleans)

Proving that some cities did program the FUNK RECORDS into their disco play lists.

Some quick takes on other debuts:

    50)
    * AIN'T IT TIME - Queen Yahna (Detroit) (one of those P&P Records releases I'd never heard of--only Detroit gives this one "Big Love." Nice vocal. Featured on the "Best of Cloud One" cd.)

    65) * N.Y., YOU GOT ME DANCING - Andrea True Connection (SF/Seattle) (Andrea returns and I found it amusing that hopelessly out-of-touch Seattle gets in on the debut week! They are still charting the Spinners' "Rubberband Band" from the summer of 1976! But the "porn queen" gets an instant charting.)

    76) * NIGHT RIDE (Part 2) - Elliot Lurie (Montreal) (couldn't get a sound sample of this--only know it is the b-side of a cover of Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl")

    77) * SHAKEY GROUND - Phoebe Snow (Chicago) Folky/R&B singer Phoebe joins Richie Havens --who briefly charted a cover of "Long train Running" last fall--in the "I never thought they did disco!" department. This is a funky cover of a 1975 Temptations record which had some disco chartings back in the day.

    82) * TOUCH ME, TAKE ME - Black Light Orchestra (Montreal)
    87) * LET'S TRY ONCE AGAIN - Patrick Norman with Black Light Orchestra (Montreal)

Two Black Light Orchestra records from producer Dominic Sciscente both debut this week courtesy of Montreal. The "Touch Me, Take Me" takes off in the USA later in the spring.

    91) * REACHING FOR THE WORLD - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (Baltimore+DC)

The first post-Teddy Pendergrass release from Harold Melvin is not bad. Features a new Teddy-like singer--but the real thing--T.P. himself--is gonna debut his first solo titles in a few weeks and he will totally overshadow anything from his old group.

Oh and I almost forgot: Jesse Green recently returned to the chart with "Flip" (an import) --a followup to this 1976 smash "Nice And Slow"--which also returns in a cover version by the neo-African Kalyan group. Note that Billboard and subsequently, Joel Whitburn, always misspell the group's name as "Kaylan." Look it up.

    __________________________________________________ _______________________

    Next week, February 26, 1977....

2 Disc-o-la Hall Of Fame titles debut in the Top 40:

    One a "satanic" title by
John Davis & the Monster Orchestra and the other by T-Connection, who had a moderate hit in 1976 with the instrumental "Disco Magic." They add lyrics this time and watch out world--this is gonna be a monster hit.

New titles by Carol Williams (finally the right one!), Jerry Rix (previous "bubbled under"), Players Association, and the aforementioned Jesse Green also debut. And I can't forget Andrea True--who actually has the highest debut of the week.

"Bubbling Under" debuts new stuff from
Cerrone, the Memphis Horns, Current, the Blackbyrds, Brainstorm, a guy named "Q"-- and --is this a trend?-- another porn star who throws herself into the Disco market hoping for a new career a' la' Miss True. Yeah, she was an Ivory Snow girl in a previous incarnation. Michael Zager produced her tribute to a beloved Japanese restaurant chain. ;-P

Re: 1977 Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts!!!

    ******

    But wait!!!
Before you move on ...and you know you soon will, there's something else this week for the What's It All About file , Marky .....

I don't know how much buzz it made then, ........ but two notorious Northern Soulers have jumped ship and are now coincidentally positioned side-by-side as they each surge up the disco charts :

THE DISCO COMPILATION CONSENSUS TOP 40--PURELY BY POINTS:

    21) (40) TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY - Barbara Pennington (37 points/4 charts) BB:#16
    22) (27) UPTOWN FESTIVAL - Shalamar (36 points/3 charts) BB ranked #9
After years of observing which 60's dance tunes garner the most reaction, they are both all-too-familiar with what classic upbeat dance sounds draw dancers to the floor and simply applying those classic elements to the music of the current disco scene easily results in instant success for each their first time out of the gate.

So welcome Simon Soussan and Ian Levine to our dance world
... our world of merry music : DISCO !!

    Simon Soussan:

    Ian Levine :

man how those screaming echoey strings bounced off the walls of Studio One

Re: 1977 Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts!!!

    ******

To continue the conversation a bit further if I may ......

How interesting that Northern Soul insider Simon Soussan chose to do a medley of established Motown songs rather than one using dance floor approved Northern Soul songs (wouldn't that have been brilliant and such an exciting education for the disco club scene. On this point -we got robbed!))

Maybe he figured pitching Motown to Motown was more a winning strategy. ....And what a cleverly hip title is UPTOWN FESTIVAL -genius to not call it something more generic ...like Motown Medley - although its' ambiguous title might in part be sour grapes , after Motown turned it down when Simon offered it to them first.
In addition to UPTOWN FESTIVAL , Soussan did do two Northern Soul remakes that appear on this first Shalamar LP as well.
INKY DINKY WANG DANG DOO and BEAUTIFUL NIGHT both deserving of club play (remix!) but both of which I think he made mistakes with .....keeping INKY too cartoony in its vocals, and in dropping out the vocals of BEAUTIFUL NIGHT altogether...although BEAUTIFUL NIGHT is ...beautiful.

Maybe he should have done just the opposite ....leaving out those INKY DINKY lines and keeping in at least some of the BEAUTIFUL NIGHT lines that mention dancing (maybe he meant to!! Someone in the studio read the memo wrong!!!!)

.....It still strikes me as a shame that Simon didn't apply the same uptown festival concept to a string of northern soul songs though . Maybe as a follow-up to UPTOWN FESTIVAL once he had our attention.
    added thought:
he could have called it NORTHERN SOUL TRAIN

One final thought (I think [tongue out])-----

In the history of pop music I can't think of this ever being done before .... where a medley of parts of songs are remade and woven together and presented as a collective--- this is of course, years before STARS ON 45 .
    EXCEPT just once.

    Months before this:
It had been done ....and again through disco.....this time a disco medley of disco tunes ! no less ..... The Ritchie Family's BEST DISCO IN TOWN .

Any other medleys like this prior????

Or do we once again see disco boldly going where no music had dared go before??

    [curious]
