Dare to Mix - The Next DJ

This thread is totally based the on ability to mix. That means, a DJ takes a record, cues it up at the spot he feels is right and then mixes the song in.
It would help if you describe where and when you start a mix and for how long. Since the club just opened, here is the first record of the night.
Dancer - Gino Soccio - I can not start off with a more simple song to mix into.

    YouTube - gino soccio dancer

    next DJ.......

I really really want to mix POP POP SHOO WOP into Isaac Hayes SHAFT :icon_eek:

On a hunch I think it could work nicely

But just to play it safe .....

I'm going with SHAKE YOUR BODY DOWN TO THE GROUND
    The Jacksons

    one more thought !!!

I don't know the BPMs for this one ( & my computer has no sound ) but if it falls into that 118 - 122 bpm range

my ultimate mix choice is :

    otherwise -

its back to SHAKE YOUR BODY DOWN TO THE GROUND :icon_razz:

    thank you

I would insure I had the LP version of Shake your body - The Jackson as soon as you hear the part that goes ummmm....I abruptly would throw in Bad Girls by Donna Summer.... This is a perfect set up for someone.

I am glad that we are mixing together.
The last mix - - Bad Girls into Shake your body Down - -
Do not hink I wouold have went that way -
I would have played "Lets Start The Dance" Bohanon
But since we have "Bad Girls" on the platter - In the last chorus during the last frame, start "The Boss" Diana Ross - Bad Girls will break into accapella with the "toot toot - the records are still on beat, and then Diana breaks into the music.

I tried this at home and yes, "Mephisto" by the Sarr Band / Diabolical Soul Invention is perfect to lay over Diana both rhythmically and narrative-wise, turning the Diva into a sex slave of Lucifer himself, purring and moaning in bondage. - But if this is too obscure to follow, disregard and carry on, as Tim would say in Project Runway.

Jussi-I respect your taste, but I am not familiar with "Mephisto" so instead
I'm switching to Candi Staten's "When You Wake Up Tomorrow" or
Venus Dodsen's "Night Rider"-both would take the dance floor in different directions.Pick one!

hmmm...I'd STILL go with "Mephisto" as it does clearly show Miss Ross who's The Boss! In any case, the track ends with...what's the term in English, a cold fade? What I mean is an ending that comes to a full stop, allowing you to continue with any kind of track, in theory. - How would you perform the mix going from "The Boss" to "Night Rider", without pitching both too much for comfort?

hmmm-I would pitch one down and one up,but please cancel my
suggestion and if you have a sample of "Mephisto" I for one
would love to hear it-is it Youtubed? And since we now know it has
a cold ending,it helps for our next DJ.

Seems we are getting a little off the track here folks. You can only choose one record to mix, do not post two choices, pick one and mix it in and tell us where and when you would mix it.
Since our last tune ends cold, lets restart our night with
Weeks & Company "Rock Your World"

Disco Kid, I am very happy you like this thread and are taking part, This can be a grat thread for us and give our musical talents a place to show. BUT, what I would like everyone to do is explain where and when you would mix the next song.
OK, Make That Move is the table - in the break, start mixing in ------- "I've Just Begun To Love You" from the break - when the second frame breaks, pull the mix and grab your second copy and remix from the begining.

YouTube - Dynasty - I've Just Begun To Love You

Re: Dare to Mix - The Next DJ

can't keep the crowd waiting for days for the next record can we? So:

YouTube - Astrud Gilberto - Beginnings

"stunning groover" says whoever posted Astrud Gilberto's eight minute "Beginnings" at Youtube and this person is correct. The track continues the narrative and seques like dream out of "I've Just Begun To Love You", just cue the guitar intro after killing some of the middles of the ongoing tune. Check out the final minute of "Beginnings", talk about being ahead of time for a decade! - Originally thought of throwing on Marlena Shaw's "Sweet Beginnings" but Astrud's song is less known and as such, more interesting.

    Oooo, Oooo, can I plaaaaayyyy???

Let's fall out of 'Beginnings' by setting up the timbales on T-Connection's 'At Midnight' from the start, fading it in as the former record plays out somewhere in its refrain (you're gonna want to play with the pitch carefully). Then, if you know the song like a champ, throw it in, like BAM! This could work even better if it was just about midnight in a club, you think? LOL!

LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WORKING THE TURNTABLES HERE!
FIRST, DURING THE 3 MINUTE INTRO ON "AT MIDNIGHT" GRAB YOUR COPY OF JANET JACKSON'S "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY" AND PLAY THE ACCAPELLA VERSION OVER THE INTRO AND THEN AT MIDNIGHT BREAKS. DURING THE LAST LITTLE BREAK IN AT MIDNIGHT, BRING IN THE KOOL AND THE GANG "OPEN SESAME' FROM THE LITTLE TINY BREAK NEAR THE END. NOW GRAB YOUR SECOND COPY AND DROP/SLAM OPEN SESAME FROM THE DRUM CRASH AFTER THE FIRST CHORD. COOL!

COULD NOT FIND ACCAPELLA OF JANET

    KOOL AND THE GANG

WHO WILL MIX OUT OF "OPEN SESAME"?

If I'm allowed to come back on the tables. I would enjoy playing after Spank. Martin's Disco Circus in the middle of the 12 inch for about 2 min just so I can cue up Can I live without your love by Tamiko Jones.
    FYI ....I love this thread....:icon_cool:

OK at this point, so much good FAST music playing, I myself would slow it down just a little. So after Tamiko, I'm gonna set up Candi Staton's 'When You Wake Up Tomorrow', and of course I'll pitch it a bit faster since it starts up with a drum intro. A little scratching in the beginning and at the right time, BAM! Threw it in! Mix and play! Watch the crowd go "WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" Enjoy!

OK, Scream has them with a WOOOO! So we have to keep them there!
Right when the break starts, (ie) Sexyyyyy!! you start at around the 3:25 minute mark - Got My Mind Made Up - Instant Funk - ride it in and the female vocal of "Say What" hits, then you let it go at "Got My Mind Made Up" It is a short mix but very effective, and you will keep the WOOOOOOOOO!

Elbowed my way into the booth again...
When you reach beat one of the melodic "You got to push it to me baby..etc" bit, start laying on "Don't Stop The Music" by the Bombers from beat one, gently pitched into rhythm, with most of the oncoming track's bass off. While the Instant guys sing reduce their bass and highs and bring on the Bombers bass until the end of Instant's melodic part, by which you'll have the Bombers playing full throttle and the I.F's all but faded away. During the oriental sounding instrumental segment of the Bombers, lay the "dance!" shouts & some of the bass of "Hypnodance" by Who's Who over it for extra effect. You'll have the students, the hipsters and the rest of the pork hat crowd going aaah!

I am lovin it!!! Jussik slided in the Bombers, working the mix!!
Just let the vocal intro go by and start from the first beat, start the mix at about the 4 minute mark on the Bombers and just let them ride, a slight pitch is needed to perfect the mix.
