Seems odd then that the Bee Gees didn't pursue a more fully orchestrated disco sound

Considering that this 1968 orchestrated rendition of Bee Gees tunes

elicited this comment from Robin Gibb on its' back cover liner notes:

The Robert Stigwood orchestra does not exist . It is an assembly of top musicians that he has known and worked with over the years, and specially brought together for this album .

Leading the orchestra is one of England's best arrangers , and one of our greatest friends Bill Shepherd. We met Bill in Australia in 1963 when he worked for a record company, we met up again in London in 1967. Within the week, we all met with Robert Stigwood and our success began. Bill Shepherd was Musical Director on our first record and every one since and for both our albums. Robert Stigwood asked Bill to bring together the musicians for the orchestra and to do the arrangement - thus this album came about.

Barry, Maurice and myself are completely thrilled by this LP , a life-long ambition has been fulfilled to hear our music played by a full orchestra. They have done it splendidly and I shall cherish it always and I hope it will be the first of many such albums.

My sincere thanks to our Manager, Robert Stigwood, and Bill Shepherd a truly great Musical Director for this beautiful album.

    Robin Gibb
