I never heard of this artist before. They recorded off Ric Tic, which was a Motown related label. I don't know if their tunes were instrumental mixes of motown cuts or actual re-recordings. I wouldn't be surprised if this lead orchestral sound was the inspiration not just for artists like MFSB, but disco music in general! This stuff was released in the mid 60s, with the first track being from 1965.

Must be the case more or less, just like this one must have shaped the sound:
YouTube - Neil Richardson The Riviera Affair
It's Neil Richardson's "Riviera Affair", a British library track from 1970, a cult item for a decade and one of the most grandiose pieces of popular music ever recorded.
I wouldn't be surprised if the library music in Europe shaped the disco sound over there. I don't know how much exposure the guys on the East Coast in the USA would have had to it, but they had influences from Motown and then Philly to guide them into the disco sound.
I've heard lots of the uptempo library music from the late 60s, and they seemed to be heavily influenced by blues and R&B, but eventually created their own unique sound. Here's one nice one from 1968 by Johnny Pearson
And here's a performance by Johnny Harris, who produced Shirley Bassey's 1969 LP with Light My Fire, and then released his own LP the following year.
