Chad Hurley, the guy who got immensely rich after he crated a website where you can post Vids (shhhht, it's YouTube), didn't know what to do with all that money and said to a few people: hey, let's create a new American F1 team: U.S. F1.
And so it went, the car will probably be powered by a Cosworth engine and will be one of the 13 teams that will appear on the starting the grid in 2010.
The team, whose logo can be previewed at usf1.com, is fronted by F1 stalwart and broadcaster Peter Windsor, and American Ken Anderson, of Indycar and NASCAR fame but also former Ligier technical director.
Briton Windsor, 56, has worked for Williams and Ferrari, but is best known today as a television pundit and writer.
The team will have the slogan 'Made In America' and probably be headquartered in the heart of NASCAR-country in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Reportedly, an agreement to use the new Windshear wind tunnel in North Carolina is already in place, while USF1 intends to be a showcase for American technology and US-born drivers.
Great move as Americans are so excited by Formula One (not)
Where are the F1 Americans? They have promised now to be on the 2011 grid after facing too many financial problems this year. They can expect a serious fine though for not showing up this year.
But that's not why I bump this tread up. The good and official news is that the USA will have its own Grand Prix in 2012 (till at least 2021). It will be held at the brand new track in Austin/Texas and it will be 30 years ago that F1 had its own circuit in New York (1961-1980).
Do I have news on the USF1 team? Yep, they just got banned for life by the F.I.A. for not showing up on the grid this season and for not answering to Ecclestone's question: Show me the money!
End of story!
