Hi everyone, what was the name of the large club located 2-3 blocks north of Roxy? Very popular in the mid-80s, but I cannot remember the name for love or money.

It had a large dance floor downstairs, and an art gallery on the second floor. When the video for "Dominatrix (Sleeps Tonight)" was released, I went to an industry party there. Linda Fiorentino was the upstairs waitress, and Bruce Willis was the main bartender (yes, he was cocky as hell, he still had hair, so he thought he was God's gift). Does anyone else remember this club?

Hi JPP, Danceteria was farther east. This club would have been exactly 2/3 blocks north of the Roxy on 20th or 21st, one of those clubs you'd go to, then have breakfast at the Empire Diner.....maybe the name began with an "a"?

    All right Boodikka.

Now my lover and I are going nuts racking the brains trying to get the name of this place. We were there for a "Mardi Gras" event in the early 80's. I think the name starts with a "P" but I'm just spinning wheels. I'll get it...

Hi Nicky, meu amor, you remember the place? At least I know I didn't hallucinate it.....you remember the art gallery upstairs, I believe you could actually buy the art exhibited, as well. That was where Fiorentino worked, and I remember her as being VERY yummy! Tell me you didn't go to that Dominatrix party as well! I cannot believe I cannot remember the name of this club.....why am I getting so old?

    Hi Boodikka,

No, you're not (still) hallucinating and no, thank god, I did not make the "Dominatrix" event. This is so wild. The "Mardi-Gras" event was for those of us, I guess, who didn't make it to New Orleans. The place was decorated to the hilt and drag queens were floating by everywhere. I can see it all EXCEPT the darn name of the club. I'm about ready to scream....and scream again...

Hi Jussi, Area was similar, but it was much farther downtown....I am racking the few brain cells I have left to remember this club's name.

An aside to this thread: I had mentioned Bruce Willis being the club's bartender in the original post. That would be roughly April 1984. In February 1988 I am sitting at the bar at Columbus restaurant and the former bartender comes strolling in with bodyguards and Demi Moore....funny how quickly life can change, eh?

I wish someone would remember, as i am curious to know which club it was..anyhow,i looked up Bruces bio..it lists:

"For Willis, the requisite pay-the-bills job was a gig tending bar at the trendy Cafe Central, which at the time was a hip networking spot for many of the celebrities involved in the New York acting scene. When not mixing drinks, he fearlessly pursued acting jobs "

Hi JPP, Cafe Central was probably his main gig, but he supposedly worked this club alot...I've seen him mention it in interviews. The thing that is killing me is I know that many people besides Nicky and I have probably gone to this club....it was a popular place, not obscure. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

Hi JPP, it wasn't the Ritz, that was further downtown....thanks everyone for the help. I give up on this, I'm embarrassed to admit.

    .

    .

Meu bem Nicky, it's not Roseland. Roseland would have been on 52nd across the street from Ipanema.....why can I remember clubs from 1975, but I can't remember one from 1985?
