    Early Vicki Sue Robinson Songs:

    *****

disco patrons first started becoming aware of Vicki Sue Robinson at the end of 1975 with :

    174) * NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO - Vicki Sue Robinson
    (RCA) A= 14; B= 27; F= 1; G= 4; Total points: 46
    5 weeks on the chart (thus far) (11/22 - 12/27/75); Peak: #16

However in that same year Warren Schatz was already using her voice as part of another ensemble: on The Brothers DISCO-SOUL LP.

She was just one of nineteen people credited with contributing vocals* on this LP. :icon_eek:
Pretty amazing number in itself ....but particularly considering this is almost entirely an instrumental project !!!! .

The cut IN THE POCKET has by far the most vocals on it ....
so it seems plausible to say somewhere within those voices is the talented Miss Vicki

Love this example of early disco regardless:

sort of Trammps meet Silver Convention (with a little Isaac Hayes wah wah guitar action in there too)

    * actually the LP credit reads:
Assorted Voices , ETC. : Vicki Sue Robinson (followed by eighteen other names)
    Baby, take me
    high upon a hillside

    high up where the stallion
    meets the sun

I haven't listened to that track for a while. I'm not a huge fan of Disco Soul, because it sounds like slightly musak-y disco covers. Are You Ready For This was the best cut from that record for disco, but I do like the funky cover of Fire with the nice break towards the end.

In The Pocket reminds me more of Block Party, the instrumental version of I Can't Turn You Loose, by Anthony White/B-H-Y.

At first I thought "the hell you say! ? " :icon_confused: but then i listened to it with BLOCK PARTY in mind ... and yes indeed ... there it is. Same bass work. Cymbals. :icon_cool:

IN THE POCKET also brings to mind :

    That similar churning beat .
God I love listening to that song !

    French horns . Seductive strings.

    Romantic and uplifting.

DOES DISCO GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT ?!!!! :icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen: :icon_cool: :icon_mrgreen:

Yep, Trammps Theme has that similar bass line. Probably Ronald Baker there too. Even though I like the track, I felt it should have been called something else instead of Trammps Theme. I think something a bit funkier with more BPMs would have been adequate, something they could play live without strings if need be. It's too MFSB/Salsoul rather than Trammps themselves. I know, the same musicians, but I think of the Trammps as a smaller unit band, rather than a fully orchestrated ensemble.
