My music sharing experience @ Discomusic.com

I've been wanting to say for awhile now that since I've been visiting this site for over a year I've experienced a number of positive experiences. Initially Bernie was kind enough to feature one of my mixes on what was unfortunately the last Dance Groove Radio show. Since that time I've been lucky enough to begin some long distance pen-pal friendships that has produced some fantastic music sharing. In the last year I've received numerous CD's and records from such notable regulars as: Jazz Pilgrim, Blaxman, Zecazevedo and Discodisk. They have been kind enough to share there knowledge and love of music ranging from classic soul, funk and disco and introducing me to other soulful sounds from artists of Brazil and Great Britain such as 'Tim Maia' and 'The FBI'. I would never have known about these artists if it weren't for this great site. I was curious to know if others on this site were as lucky as I've been. If so, I think it is important to share these experiences so that Bernie knows that this site has become more than just a forum and place to visit. It has been a source of positive vibes that continue to flourish. Thanks to Bernie and those that have and continue to enrich my life with the gift of music. I will do my part to continue to do the same.

    Easy,

P.S. - Paul I haven't forgotten, your Switch LP is coming soon.

I'll second that. I've been introduced to loads of new sounds and people. I've also traded vinyl, MDs, and CD-Rs with other members. I've received heaps of goodies that I would be unlikely to ever find locally, or even on the net. Likewise, if I come across something that I know someone else would like, I'll gladly pick it up. What is common in one place can be a rare gem elsewhere.

Speaking of picking up something for someone, I once mentioned how much I liked 'Treat her like a lady' by the Temps in a forum post and next thing I know Discodisk tells me he picked up a copy of the 12" single for me in Britain and he wanted nothing in return for it. This is exactly what I mean regarding this forum. It is not just an internet site.

    Hi everyone,

Since my good friend Sammy mentioned my name, I think is a good time to come back and put some few words in this forum.

First, thanks for the reference Sammy.

Second, I wish to agree with you when you talk about poeple like JAZZ PILGRIM, DISCODISK, BERNIE and, I would say many more people here in this forum. There are so many good folks and I had lots of fun discussing and sometimes fighting (in a gentle way....I think).

How can I tell something about sharing in this forum without mention folks like FUNKY DUDE, NANO, MARKYDEFAD, NICKNACK, GRAHAM START.........sorry if I forgot somebody..... my memory sucks!!!

    PEACE :)

    Sammy,

Nice topic and I couldn't agree more that the site is more than just a place to visit. (BTW --- How did Allentown treat you last time. :) )

I've created some nice, and I hope lasting, long distance relationships... sharing music, sharing stories, just sharing. I've hooked up with old friends I'd lost track of which is just great. Bernie also featured one of my mixes before DGR had to close down and I still can't thank him enough.

This site is like water in the desert. The wealth of knowledge so many of you have just astounds me at times and not just about music. Jussi and our resident goddess, Boodikka, could probably give a college course on film studies. :) But I think Jussi has too much fun taunting us with those obscure music titles he gets his hands on. :D The Senors de Groove (I hope I spelled that right) have shared their wealth on jazz/funk and my man, DiscoDisk, has enlightened me to Northern Soul. To hear the scope of soul music (music by American artists to boot) that NEVER gets released in the USA is astounding. Reason: "People movin' out, people movin' in. Why?..." Need I say more?

Bernie, thank you for sticking with this site and I hope ALL OF US can continue to hang out together.

    NickNack:

To respond to your question about the last record show in Allentown. Let me begin by saying, this was not the $1 LP blowout sale that they previously had, therefore, I did not get as lucky or go as crazy. However, I did find two pieces for $1 each in beautiful condition that I wanted, The Trammps LP 'Disco Inferno', believe it or not, I never had it. Also, Gary's Gang LP 'Gangbusters' which not only features 'Spirits', but also features a killer slow jam entitled 'Round & round & round' in the Blue Magic mode. I had this LP before, but it was worn so I replaced it. I'll keep you posted when I get alerted to the next $1 blowout. Thanks for asking.

My experience from this website has been very enjoyable as well as informative. I don't come across too many people that I can chat about disco for hours without them growing bored. I've recieved two fantastic cds thanks to Graham - :P smooches :D and learned about artists that were unknown to me such as Tantra, Jakki, Tina Charles, Munich Machine, Patrick Cowley, Harry Thurman, Eumir Deodato, Kebekeletrik, Love Committee etc... Occasionally we have morons/trolls that come to this website trying to disrupt our happy home but its a problem easily taken care of. Bernie this website is DELIGHTFUL!!!

I've been visiting this site for a long time now, since its name was "Bernie's disco music pages", and there was a fantastic "mystery disco break"!. My experience is enthusiastic in getting in touch with people like you!!! This site is also partially responsible of my re-born disco crazy and the fact that I came back to spin in the discos (just for fun and once a month  ).
Thanks to Bernie and this site I was lucky enough to win the first edition of Jussi's book "Saturday Night Forever" and to first heard about the marvellous finnish disco-drake. This board bears some very educative threads and some very funny ones too.
Trading records and CDs has been a pleasure with many people here: Maarten, Sirius, Masdefi, Patrick, Jussi (YEP that Floaters album was for me, but I found a copy already...). Many of you got the Billboard disco charts from me and Marky is fantastic and indestructible in continously post them in this board.

    Thank you all guys!!!!

I have to agree with you all - the people that I have got to know on the Board and the musical experiences we have all shared have been wonderful. Like Giovannni said - it has re-ignited my love for the music.

    THANKS BERNIE!!!

And the long-distance friendship I have struck up with Sammy, Blaxman and Zeca is so precious to me. What wonderful people you three guys are! I could never have believed that I would be making friends over the web at the age of 42! We have now had two exchanges of CDs and the new music I have received is out of this world!! Fantastic stuff! I look forward to many more e-mails in my inbox each day!!!!

And of course how could I not mention my two great friends from this isle of ours, whom I have gotten to know via the Board - Discodisk and Greg (Wilson). I think, Discodisk, your knowledge of the music scene is phenomenal!! Your (both of you...) love of the music comes through loud and clear - SERIOUS RESPECT to ya!. I always enjoy your e-mails greatly .... We have traded magazines, cds, mds ...BTW Thanx for that Soul train video, Discodisk - I'll get my video re-connected at the weekend and I'lll watch it then!! It's about time I sent you something, Discodisk. But what the hell do I send you - surely you must have it all??

And there are all you other regulars on the Board. Without you guys, my life would be a little bit emptier! Marky, Robbie, Sirius, Jussik, Funky Dude, Paul, NickNack, Quinny etc....and BERNIE of course !!

And there is always Jazz Pilgrim 2!! Even my son can't keep away from the Board!!

THIS BOARD IS LIKE A WAY OF LIFE!

Well what can I say, I've been visiting this site (THE WORLD'S BEST DISCO SITE :D ) since 1998 and been a member in the forum since late 2000 and have had a FANTASTIC TIME and still am. I've pretty much watched this disco music forum evolve from the early days when it was like a directory tree structured messageboard format to when it became a more refined sort of messageboard with the yellow colour scheme and separate messageboards to when it was even more refined to the shortlived corporate blue scheme (people didn't seem to like it  ) to the light blue and white scheme with extra forums which lasted a while to the latest incarnation which is even more refined with extra options and EVEN MORE forums :D ! And over the years the number of members has grown from say maybe a bit over 100 in late 2000 to over 800 or even a 1000 today.

I even remember back in the late 90's when Bernie use to have a disco song of the month segment and the first time I visited the site in 1998 I remember listening to the disco song of the month "I Found Love" by Love & Kisses which was absolutely FANTASTIC :D :D :D !!! I use to think the song was "Part Time Love" until I downloaded a 15 minute long disco song "I Found Love" by Love & Kisses which when I listened to it I immediately remembered hearing this song on Bernie's disco song of the month segment when I first visited this site. Anyhow while I enjoyed the disco picks of the month I also really enjoyed the sound samples on Bernie's collection of 12"s and LPs in the A-Z Disco Vault which helped me discovered even more disco I never heard of. Back in 1998 I mainly only knew the mainstream stuff though I was just starting to build a collection of various disco records. Anyhow then came the FANTASTIC Dancegroove Radio shows which had a FANTASTIC cocktail of disco/funk/soul/Hi-NRG/anything goes which was the BEST!!! I know I didn't listen to all the shows as I sometimes had server troubles and other committments but when I listened to them I enjoyed them all :D :D :D !!! But unfortunately in mid 2002 Dancegroove Radio along with the audio samples on the disco vault and top 500 came to an end no thanks to those corporate buggers      , 2002 wasn't a very good year for Discomusic.com, but life goes on and I'm still having a great time hear :D .

And in the forums, it's LOADED with LOTS of info on the disco/funk genre which I've learned a lot more about disco music than I ever will anywhere else big thanks to all me mates in the forum: Bernie (the creater of the world's BEST disco site), Blaxman, Jazz Pilgrim, Graham Start, Discodisk, Leanmean, Hustlebaby, Masdefi, Outsider, Quinny, Markydefad, Mixmachine and many others whom I know on the board and even the non-regulars have helped me a great deal to, THANKYOU EVERYONE :D :D :D :D :D !!!!! Through these forums I've discovered SO MANY MORE disco songs, learned a lot of facts about the music in general, learned about the artists themselves, and learned a whole stack more.

Then of course (I hate to mention this) Discomusic.com has had its brief moment of bad times which happened in the middle of 2002. As mentioned above Dancegroove Radio closed and so did audio samples no thanks to the corporates  . Also the worlds best MP3 sharer Audiogalaxy was taken down  . And that year we also had some rotten racist/homophobic mongrels coming into the forum causing fights turning the forum into a AFL footy brawl  . As I said 2002 wasn't a good year for Discomusic.com. But thank god the bad times soon fizzled out towards the end of the year and the good times are back again :D .

Anyhow I've forgotten about that bad period of 2002 and now having a great time again. I must admit I've been away from Discomusic.com for a while as I've had other committments but am back again posting a message or two or more a week even though I've still got committments. I check the posts very often reading what sort of interesting valuable pieces of info you's are posting in regards of this genre of music and add my two cents worth in too :D . Plus I enjoy throwing in my Australiana signatures too which are everchanging every post but the "Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi" is often used as it's my favourite, it's the ultimate Australian sporting chant eversince the Sydney 2000 Olympics :D .

What more can I say but no other disco site that tops Discomusic.com, this site is the BEST :D :D :D !!!!! Thanks Bernie for putting up the BEST disco music site in the world :D :D :D !!!!! And everyone in the forum, you guys are the best, we're all one big happy global family and I hope it stays that way :D :D :D !!!!!

    Long live disco music :D :D :D !!!!
