Thanks Bernie actually you can find a little info on volume one, two, and three here Disco Mixer: Hollywood @ DiscoMusic.com
Can somebody tell me who were responsible for those famous Hollywood disco mixes in the late seventies Hollywood Disco Mixer 1, 2 etc. All I can find out about them is that they were bootlegs. Who mixed produced, engineered them? Thanks in advance.

Chala
yes I have the mixers you're referring to
They are credited to Began and Clarke, the people responsible for the BC label, that basically took hits and re-recorded them in a more percussive fashion usually, a prime example from the BC label would be HI VOLTAGE "LET'S GET HORNY" / "SOMEWHERE BEYOND" taking "BEYOND THE CLOUDS" by QUARTZ and "VERTIGO" by DAN HARTMAN and creating a new song, another famous one is their version of "LOVE IS THE MESSAGE"
Again, for a more complete history I can only recommend Patrick's book, it is invaluable if you're interested in the history and stories behind these acetates and bootlegs.
A large percentage of the Disco Mixers
('Hollywood' was the first, from that source. As opposed to Began Cekic's 'Hollywood Party', on One Way Records)
a/k/a Special Disco Mixer
a/k/a Bits & Pieces
were lifted from issues of DiscoNet.

Awww! That just made my day...for real!
If you ever come across "Hollywood II", on V-12 Records, GRAB IT!!!
Of all the "Hollywood" style medleys, it's the most danceable from start to finish.
The flip side is titled "ABC Disco" by Hit Direction(?).
But it's actually the 12" version of "Down To Love Town" by the Originals.

Is this it?
SPECIAL DISCO MIXER - HOLLYWOOD 2
A lot of these have made it to youtube.
There used to be a wonderful website with all the "disco mixers" songlists and other info. I had posted it here a few times, but now it appears gone.
Maybe it has moved?

Hey Stephen i have Hollywood II in MP3 format, and yes it is a good one. I don't have the flip side but Down to Love town is one of my all time favorites from the mid seventies along with "Free Man" by South Shore Commision. Good seeing you again.
Yeah needlefingers thats it, and thank goodness many have made it to youtube so we can hear them again :-)
I'm pretty sure the web site you're referring to was Patrick's, the author of the book I mentioned earlier in this thread.
Stephen, were the Hollywood mixes released on Disconet as well? I originally had them as acetates on Sunshine Sound, then later found them on vinyl, basically bootlegs of bootlegs.
Side Note: In Mexico the Hollywood 2 Medley was recreated by a group of musicians , like the Stars on 45.
The other way around... They were Disconet releases before they were bootlegged. And not ALL of them. A majority of the medleys on the Hollywood-boots were originally DiscoNet releases.
ie: 1979 Top Tune medley, 1980 Top Tune medley, 1981 Top Tune medley, etc... etc...
Also, the "Classics" medleys (1 & 2), Flashback of a Genius, This Is a Test medley, etc... were originally out on DiscoNet.

I used to love the DiscoNet yearly medleys. I bought a few on CD from ebay a few years ago. When I played the medleys at NEWPORT STATION, they would always pack the floor, but once, some ignorant customer, came up to the booth and said to me, "Why don't you play the entire songs??
Always looking for remastered 12\" versions on CD
I have to say I'm not a big fan of medleys myself, a lot of the early ones especially took no consideration for the tempos of the songs and the BPM's were all over the place, a nice nostalgic listening experience, but for dancing...near impossible.
The Disconet medleys were arranged tempo wise, and with some clever edits and mixes as well, so no dancing problem there, but I'd have to say I'd rather dance to the songs than little snippets of them arranged in a medley.
I recently followed my friend Jay Negron to this site and I came across this thread. You need to speak to Jay and he will fill you in on info you need regarding the Hollywood Disco Mixes. In the meantime you can read his interview at Disco Patricks site here...

The interview at Disco Patrick's site says it all.
It was over 30 years ago - my how things have changed!!!!
The DJ who inspired that 'Hollywood Dub' was Walter Gibbons.
He used to make his own incredible plates even before Francois K started with his.
For a more in depth interview about those times and some great Disco Mixes go here:

Here are some re-edits/reincarnations of the first "Hollywood Dub":

the name of the DJ "mashup" or remix on V-12 Records with "Down to Love town.." on the flip side was called "Disco Spectacular" (1978)
And yes, the creator always had "dance floor" action (as opposed to DJ mixing/editing skills only) in mind when putting together this mix and many others.
