Criterion is an independent company that licenses out movies and does them up with fancier packaging. Personally, I find they're hit and miss with certain titles, and their transfers aren't always the best. They were the first company that put out the directors cut of Robocop on DVD back in the late 90s, as well as hard to get movies like Silence of The Lambs and John Woo's The killer and Hard Boiled. But they also put out silly films like Armageddon, so they aren't quite 100% into the artsy or cult films.
I watched LDoD in the theatre, and found it unappealing.
