Disco Acts from BENELUX (specially Belgium).

We know a lot of French Disco Acts (Voyage, Cerrone etc.) and Dutch like The Limit, does anybody knows other BENELUX (specially Belgian) acts. Like Chakachas (even not being disco), were there other Belgian/BENELUX acts in Disco scene, specially if L.A.X. was a Belgian act??
    Thanks.

    Benelux disco

Fun topic! And I am not even Belgian! Nevertheless:

    (1) Jeffry Lake Group

My all time favorite disco act from Belgium, with the all time floor killer "Stark naked". I only have it on tape - but the hunt is on!

    (2) Tiffany

Not disco per se but disco-ish... Excellent tracks such as "002345709 (that's my number)" and (even better) "Presidential suite".

    (3) BeNeLux featuring Nancy Dee

One hit wonder (as far as I am aware) with "Switch".

    (4) Grace Under Pressure

Excellent (and I mean excellent) cover of "The glow of love".

    (5) Others that are from Belgium, but that I do not like as much: Telex, Jade4U (more early house than disco), The Disco Dog (a rarity) and Dany Caen (very nice ballad called "Let's synchronize our hearts").

Was State Of Grace - "That's when we will be free" Belgian?

    Looking forward to more posts!

    Hi Maarten,

Good to see you back! How's Germany treating you?

I always thought that State of Grace were British.

Since you asked (and totally off-topic) - Germany

Hey there Bernie - yes, I do drop in and out every now and again as we are still on dial-up from Dusseldorf in our temp furnished apartment.

But not for long... next weekend we will start the move to Berlin and we will live there from May 5.

Life and the job in Germany are good, and we have made some nice friends here in Dusseldorf. It is almost a shame that we are leaving already again. But "C'est la vie" (name that 80's singer!).

I can not tell you how much we are looking forward to unpacking our stuff and having it all to us again. And I will have a proper place for all my music in one room. So in the future I can no longer use my son Robert's sleep as an excuse for not looking up a record (they were all in his room in Japan... ).

    All the best to all!

Benelux's busiest during the disco era must have been the producer/songwriter team Jaanschen&Jaanschens. These guys put out inumerable 7-inc hits and non-hits by all sorts of weightless pop troupes. You might remember chart entries from Dingo (Hollywood), Veronica unlimited ( What kind of dance is this / Mr Music) and of course Luv of the Troian Horse, You're the greatest lover, Iiny meeny moe, IOU, etc infamy. 3 girls in skimpy outfits and no vocal talent whatsoever. Still, once heard, You're the greatest lover will never totally clear off your system.

    Aaaahhhh LUV!!!

Jussi... Luv! A guilty pleasure. Their first hit "U.O.Me" (1978) became big as the signature tune of a controversial TV show (with naked dancers no less...).

The writers/producers duo you refer to are actually not their real names. They were Hans van Hemert and Piet Souer. Under various "aliases" they were responsible for many hits from the early seventies to the early 90's.

As an FYI, one of LUV's singers, Patti Brard, is now the subject of one of three Dutch versions of "The Osbourne's". The other two competing versions are those of former Dutch and American MTV VJ Adam Curry and his wife Patricia Paay (who was responsible for many 70's/80's hits and also sang on Stars on 45) and Belgian football legend Jean Marie Pfaff.

But how about those Belgian acts Jussi, as your contribution was Dutch...

(PS It ain't much if it ain't Dutch!)

Two man Sound (recently sampled by MAW and Jocelyn Brown ("If you Believe")

Also the Chocolats - The Kings Of Clubs (14:30) on Salsoul
    (Jean Luc Drion, Jack Donder)

Weren't the producers/composers of 2 Unlimited from Belgium? "Get Ready For This" was hands-down the most overplayed song of 1991...

    Yes they were

You are right Graham, but the stage duo Ray Slijngaard and Anita Doth were Dutch. The story was that she could actually sing and he could not rap but dance. A bit like Tony Farrell of Boney M.

Jeezzz... I can't believe there aren't any other Belgium real disco acts. Hey! How about Two Man Sound?

Debbie: Save The Last Dance for Me
Katty Stott: Chirpy Chirpy Cheep (sic) - this is a 1977 version of the annoying early 70's bubblegum monster Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep and with the original vocalist. Middle Of The Road realesed a dance medley of their hits a couple of years later, with Tweedle Dee Dweedle Dum, Samson and Delilah, Sacramento, Soley Soley etc.
Boro: Disco Wonder - a medley of Stevie Wonder hits
Spooky and Sue: Do You Dig It - duo coming on like The Rubettes on "Sugar Baby Love"
Mistral: Spaceship 109/Love Destruction/Jamie - THE group with THE worst fashion sense in the universe. On the cover of Jamie the duo is dressed as part bees part starship troopers.
    Voodoomen: Voodoo Dancing
Patricia Paay: Malibu - Dutch or Belgian, I'll be Amsterdamned if she's not Dutch
    Dream Express: Dream Express -?
    Ursula Dudziak: Papaya/Funky Rings/Mosquito
    - but what about all those excellent Vangarde/Kluger productions like The Great Bouzouki Disco Band and Nite School, are those Dutch or French? Come what may, fab info on the LUV girls, Maarten!

BUT WHAT AN EXCELLENT SONG... STARSHIP (AND NOT SPACESHIP!) 109... NOW THAT YOU REMINDED ME I NEED TO GO AND FIND THAT TRACK AND AD IT TO MY COLLECTION!

Patricia Paay: Malibu - Dutch or Belgian, I'll be Amsterdamned if she's not Dutch

SEE MY NOTE A FEW COMMENTS BACK (UP). LA PAAY IS STILL THERE... EVEN THOUGH SHE REALLY SHOULDN'T...
