I always HATED songs like Born To be Alive by Patrick Hernandez or I'm A Man by Macho..
I thought they were too butch sounding..lol as I write in pink font.
In you're opinion is there such a thing as Butch Disco?
If so Name some candidates?
I guess the have you ever been denied access to a club thread by Remicks got me thinking about this.:icon_lol::icon_lol:
I wouldn't have picked the two you mentioned.
But I would say these two..
The other version of "I'm a man", by Star City, is even butchier than Macho's. So is the picture on the sleeve.
Revanche and the first Village People album too could be in that "butch disco" niche too.

It's been mentioned here before, but take the back of the cover of the Macho album and turn it upside down.
It looks a little different.![]()
I forgot "Sleazy" by the Village People:

I always thought of "Macho Man" as way too camp to be considered butch.
I would add this one:
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
I can't find a video but Giorgio Moroder's "EVOLUTION" would be another candidate. Discussed elsewhere this week in another thread.....![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Call me crazy--- but I think this one has a butch feel--(even though lyrically Black Jack's momma is callin' him & missin' him"!!!)---love this track: the chord structure and moody tone of this Moroder-esque, hard-to-find gem!
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Butch disco? Hmm, I guess that anything with male chanting or grunting in it may fit the bill. There are loads but I'm struggling to think of many. Off the top of my head I can come up with 'Stomp' by Brothers Johnson, 'So You Want To Be a Star' by Mtume, 'Jingo' by Candido, 'Movin' by Brass Construction & 'Im OK, Youre OK' by American Gypsy. Also those more 'electronic' & less symphonic records of the late 70s such as 'Moskow Diskow' by Telex & 'Beyond The Clouds' by Quartz have more 'male' appeal in a way.:icon_confused:
...ya gotta beat the street......
Another one for the "BUTCH" column--always helps if it was a rock record first, doesn't it?
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Definitely this one:
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
'We're Gonna Rock' by Sabu. Pure 100% butch!:icon_razz:
