Try and figure out THIS Instrumental...

    Hi Folks,

I am brand new to this site and this is my first thread. I hope you can help me. There is this 70's or early 80's instrumental I heard at a local restaurant in my area on Muzak. It was on the Jukebox Gold channel and it was last played on 5-11-09 between 7:15pm - 7:45pm EST. I contacted Muzak and completed the request form--twice, but haven't heard any response...yet. I even called them, but they work those requests on down time.

Now for the music. It is an instrumental from the 70's or maybe early 80's and it seemed rather long... at least 5 minutes or longer. The main melody was played on what sounded like a saxophone. The sax melody is laid back and flows nicely. The drum beat and bass had the typical 70's disco/funk sound and was moderate in speed. I have heard this piece before, but cannot remember where. People I have hummed/whistled it to have heard of it, but do not know who it is. And... I swear I heard this instrumental in a movie. It sounds like it may be a romance theme or something like that. And I am not certain if it was made for a movie specifically or it was taken from an already released album.

For you musicians out there, I was able to play the melody on my brother's synthesizer using a saxophone sound. Note: I may not be in the correct key, but I think it may be close--this is all by ear and memory. The "--------" is indicated to hold the key for approx 3-4 seconds before playing the next note. The "-" indicates to just press key and release. This melody repeats often and is the main theme of the instrumental. Bass and drums are consistent in the piece. As the melody is played, the bass drops a half to whole note after each measure.

    A--------A-A-A-Bb-G--------A-A-A-Bb-G--------G-G-G-Ab-Eb--------

Here it is again...only in a lower key. I believe the melody does shift lower:

    F--------F-F-F-F#-Eb--------F-F-F-F#-Eb--------Eb-Eb-Eb-E-B--------

I hope this triggers someones brain out there who can answer this. This instrumental is in my head all the time and it's driving me crazy to know who wrote it, so I can buy a copy.

    Thanks,
    Brent

A lot of us don't read music, even though we love to listen to it!

If you can make a recording of what you played on the keyboard, and then post the mp3 using file sharing services like zshare (just see other ID requests in this group for suggestions), so we can hear it.

I found out what that instrumental was...

...it was "Rise" by Herb Alpert.
