Both came out in 1976 but John Davis and Carol Douglas thickened it up, made it thump, and took it all the way to #1 in the dance clubs.
I believe Tony Orlando & Dawn's version came out first .....but if anyone can verify that one way or another .............feel free ....:icon_cool:

Managed to look at some Billboard bks over the weekend, and T.O.&D.'s mellow version of "Midnight Love Affair" hopped onto the Easy Listening/Adult Contemporary charts in March of '76, eventually reaching #15 within a month or so.
Carol Douglas' definitive disco version hit the charts in September, hit # 1 in October . . . and really, really slowly reached a few pop radio audiences, where it peaked at #102 months later in February 1977.
