hot (or at least lukewarm) Donna Summer music news

which searching through my cassette collection (laugh if you want but you probably won't laugh at the end of this rant!) I found a live recording of a Donna Summer televised special! According to the notation on the case, it was recorded in December 1980, the same month John Lennon was murdered. The songs are: (medley) "Once Upon a Time"/"Dim All the Lights"...."Try Me I Know We Can Make It"..."Fairy Tale High".."On the Radio".."Hot Stuff".."The Man I Love (medley)"..."Sunset People".."Bad Girls".."Starting Over Again"...and "Last Dance". Summer's guests on the show were Robert Guillaume and daughter Mimi. At one point Summer makes a comment about her weight, saying "I've been on a little diet....it hasn't been easy, but it sure has been tight". As you'd expect from a home made 29 year old recording, the quality would probably make most of you cringe but both the dialogue and the lyrics are clear enough, though the music has a sterile quality to my ears. Is anyone else old enough to remember this? The title of the show was "The Donna Summer TV Special". Since official live releases of Summer's music seem rather scarce, I'm glad I kept this.

    Yes,of course,I do remember watching Donna's 1st prime-time TV special on ABC.

I loved it and have had the chance to watch different excerpts on Youtube & other channels.

A friend also sent me a snapshot of the huge billboard on Sunset Boulevard (well I think it was Sunset Blvd !!!) advertising the TV special...

It also featured Twiggy and Debra-Lee Scott (who was playing Angie's baby sister on Donna Pescow's sitcom).

is there some reason people don't take all the excepts, splice them together and attempt to re-assemble the show? Copyright issues again?

Hardcore fans have done it...using grainy tapes and other Youtube excerpts...:icon_cool: Sure wish it was available on DVD - as a huge fan it sure was entertaining... but I doubt it ever will surface.

Anyway here are the 2 shots I mentioned in a previous post. One is the TV Guide ad and the other is the shot of the billboard (Thank U Carl for the shot - LTLYB).
    Enjoy...:icon_biggrin:
