Does anyone remember? Sunbelt Spin It

    Hi Ada1984,

Yes I do remember this record very well.
It was a big club hit here in The Haque in 1981.
It was first released on a doulble[compilation] l.p. on the 12''Import label, and it was to expensive[for me as a 16 year old] almost 25dollars.
I bought the l.p.just a few years ago, secondhand for 15 dollars, but mainly for an other track on the l.p. called Show me yours by Coruption.
Every now and then I play Spin it,but it does not have the same impact it used to have back in the days.[I think I've heard it just a bit to much, back then]
Still a very nice track, enjoy it like I did.

    Ciao John,

If i,m right the record was a dutch production and was brought out on a dutch label, in the USA it came by importe 12"' . Also a guy named Ed Smit had something to do with this record. He was a famous club DJ in the early 80s here in Holland.

My mom has the ORIGINAL!!! My uncle Doug (Groover) was the composer and producer of this track and had Rodney Eubanks perform the vocals. It was then redone with some female vocals, but the music stayed the same. They had it remastered in Holland and imported on vinyl to sell in the US.

My Uncle Doug did most of this song with his Moog Rogue, which I am in possession, and use daily. I will be re-releasing this track as an Electro House version later this year (2009). The release date will be posted here and track sold on beat port.

I remember hearing this years ago but never saw it anywhere. It actually came out a few years ago on CD on Ben Lebrand's Grand 12inches Vol 2. The Liner notes say he got it via Disconet.

Importe/12, along with Sugarscoop and Dance/Sing Records, were Disconet's commercial-release labels.

Yes I remember reading this...One of my favorites from Dance-Sing was Maxine Dee - I need a man/Men hungry ; I still play this one on my iPod.

Loved the lyrics : in fact I should transcribe a few lines on the "memorable lyrics" thread !!!

So the voice on "Prime Cuts" is not Rodney but a female? And if so, do you know her name?

Re: Does anyone remember? Sunbelt Spin It

I was told by Mike Wilkinson that the original version of Spin It was done at a far slower speed and was sung by a male. They sped it up like crazy and that's the version he told me we all played as a hit. I have no idea if it was fact or fiction, but he owned both Disconet (or ran it) and Importe 12. So according to him that's the story but revelation says other wise here. It may be a myth.

Stephen, I tried to get Kristine W to cover "I Need A Man In My Life" for her "Stronger" album, but she never seemed to take the hint. I should have yelled instead.

And it probably stays a myth and that's why this record is so special... Thanks for the info Chap2Power!

    Gz,
    DeMar.
The original on Prime Cuts IS Rodney, there was another person that reintroduced the song without permission, who used female vocals. The vocals you hear in the original were sped up and the remixed version with female vocals is very hard to find; I ran across it during a search I did last year. I cannot recall the name of the other vocalist, but if I find it as I look through my emails, I'll post it here.

That say the Disconet DJ News:

... "Spin It" by Sunbelt is in the same electronic groove, with a more pop-oriented vocal and structure. Doug Groover, from Houston, Texas, wrote, produced, and played the synthesizers. Rodney Eubanks did the lead vocals.
The original tracks impressed Terry Chapman so much that he started working on a remix, and sent it to Disconet for review. Terry has played at various clubs in Houston and New Orleans, and now has a pretty fancy mobile DJ operation as well. Terry came to New York a few weeks ago, tapes in hand, and this completed version of "Spin It" was born. Both cuts will be on a compilation double dance album from Importe/12 entitled "Prime Cuts" in a few weeks.

I knew that part allready (about the Disconet DJ news) but thanks anyway hotdiscomix. And yes revelation, I was always told that the singer was Rodney so I find it hard te believe that it was a female. Cause if you listen very good it's not a female's voice.

Doug Groover it not with us anymore but his brother has a website where you can find more information about this song. I would die if I can get the correct songtext. Here in Holland we spend months to get the lyrics right and I'm still not sure we did.

The site of Doug's brother is:

"Spin It" by Sunbelt, Doug Groover

The songtext (what we could make of it) of Spin It:

Sunbelt – Spin It DeMar In The Mix — Italo, Disco, Dance Mixes

(the site is not in English but Dutch).
