...it turned out pretty good. Yeah, this is an excuse to post the video I just found of them doing 'I Can't Give You Anything'. It looks similar in style to the one I posted of Gloria Gaynor singing 'Honey Bee'. I don't think they are official promo films. Probably commissioned by some European TV station, or TV show.
The bass in this last one reminds me of Tommy Stewart's Bump & Hustle Music

Oh I loved 'Cant Give You Anything'. I was 10 when this was no.1 on the UK pop charts & they always played that promo film of it on TV here. I rushed out to buy it with my pocket money! How come one of the guys in the 2nd clip is sitting down? Also, what about 'Funky Weekend'?
...ya gotta beat the street......
Yes, I enjoy Funky Weekend. My favourite Stylistics dance track is Hey Girl Come And Get It, but there wasn't a good enough clip on Youtube for me to put it up. Heavy is another one that's kind of funk, kind of disco. I don't know why one of the Stylistics is sitting. I know on the later LPs, there are only 4 guys instead of 5. I wonder if he was the one that is missing from the group in that later period? Perhaps he got sick or injured and couldn't perform with them anymore? Disco Funk
Although the Stylistics were primarily a ballad group ..and with the brilliant Thom Bell writing & producing them--one of the absolute BEST!--they occasionally got the boogie call....here's one from 1973---
Yeah, it's "bubble-gummy"..and some of the lyrics are a tad precious...but I love it!
Especially the line..."he's got a funky walk in his little orthopedic shoes!" :icon_lol::icon_exclaim::icon_lol:
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Marky, that track always sounds like a speeded up version of 'Then Came You' by the Spinners & Dionne Warwick to me; I know the song's very different but the overall sound is very similar I think.Maybe they used the same musicians or something.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Thom Bell produced both cuts and MFSB were the musicians on both cuts, so it's possible they recycled the chords and rhythm. Disco Funk
ROCK N ROLL BABY was a smash hit here in LA. That song would always pack the dance floor. The album version is longer and has the solo guitar break. The 45 does not.
Always looking for remastered 12\" versions on CD
I'm with DiscoFunk . . .I loves me some "Hey Girl Come & Get It" . . . . one of the first disco tunes to chart on the "brand new" Billboard disco chart in the fall of '74.:icon_cool:
That falls under the category of songs I wish had been remixed or extended. For it's brief 3:30 min, it does have a lot going on within, but a longer mix would have been nice! Or even just an instrumental flip side. If it did get released in '74, I think it may have been the first example of Van McCoy's new latin rhythm disco sound, which he would use for the next 3 or so years.

Believe it or not, I brought one of their disco 12 inchers called "lions sleep tonight" circa 1979 I believe, and I loved it; it was a cover of the old pop song "lions sleep tonight."

The Lion Sleeps Tonight was the flip side to Fly. It was the title track from the last LP they recorded with Hugo & Luigi. They went Philly after that.
I knew about it back in the early 90s when I bought a Stylistics CD compilation from some European company called BR Music, if I recall the name correctly. It was such a great deal, with so many great tunes from '74 to '78, including Lion Sleeps Tonight, Can't Help Falling In Love, etc... It may have included some of the Thom Bell era tunes from '71 to '73 (I think You Are Everything was on it). Anyway, it was the best compilation of Stylistics stuff I've ever come across.
