    Wounded Bird Going Disco??!

I was delighted to find a package of CDs in my mailbox this evening. The CDs I preordered from the Wounded Bird Records' website arrived (their orders are actually filled by The Artist Shop). So, what's the big deal?

You know how Wounded Bird seems to release those titles that you never thought you would see on CD (at least not in the U.S.!)? I picked up Candi Staton's "Chance," Belle Epoque's "Miss Broadway," and Ace Spectrum's "Low Rent Rendezvous," "Just Like In The Movies," and "Inner Spectrum" (that title has been available as an import but this version has 3 bonus tracks). The prices were quite nice at $11.99 each (I believe Amazon has them at a higher price with release in June, 2009. The Artist Shop is able to release them earlier! :icon_biggrin: ).

I'm hoping that Wounded Bird is working with Warner to finally get their disco and R&B recordings from the 70s and early 80s out on CDs!

BTW, Wounded Bird's website oddly does not list these CDs. You have to click on the link towards the right side of the screen suggesting you try The Artist Shop. How I ever found out they were releasing these titles is beyond me! :icon_lol:

That's great news as I can now stop looking for the stupidly expensive and out of print Jap CD.

I hope Wounded Bird carry on issuing Atlantic albums, as I'd love to see the Ullanda McCullough, Gwen McCrae, etc. albums issued on CD. ...if only they'd go all out disco and issue Atlantic's "Disco-Trek" album too.

Speaking as someone who likes to maximise the bang for his buck, I particularly like it when they put 2 LPs on 1 CD as they did with Deodato & John Klemmer. Hoorah for Wounded Bird!:icon_razz:

    Saw this on there too!

Jocelyn Brown/One From The Heart - Deluxe Edition ....double CD $15.99
Jocelyn Brown is probably best known for her backing vocals with the likes of John Lennon, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson & George Benson. We now present her first solo album, One From The Heart in a deluxe two CD set. Disc two contains 10 bonus tracks, the remixed versions from her 12" EPs. The album was produced by "Jellybean" Benitez. Guest artists on this album include Jellybean himself, along with Patti Austin & Marcus Miller.
I'll be checking back there often now...thanks!

am I correct in assuming that now, when people get excited about CD reissues of disco titles, it means they don't own those titles already on vinyl?

It would be great if they added a few gems like Gene Page's "Hott City" album, Disco Extravaganza by George Bussey Experience as well, as both really truly need to see the light of day...great selection...

Cory, speaking for myself, I usually have the vinyl as well, I transfer a lot to CD, but it's nice to have it done from the master tapes and the results are usually, but not always better than what I could achieve.

I agree dk. Although I have the equipment to remove scratches when transferring vinyl to computer/CD, it's never very successful, & I much prefer a professional job, when it's done properly. It's also really good if there is good quality artwork or liner notes with the CD.

I have vinyl for the memories...but it's a royal pain in the ass to deal with. I am not a vinyl fetishist by any stretch. If it comes out on CD, I will search it down and never touch the vinyl again, provided it sounds good to me.

I have made needledrops...and after cleaning the vinyl, de-staticing the vinyl, cleaning the stylus, getting the levels, recording in real-time being careful not to walk near the turntable, then cleaning the files, exporting the files, burning a disc...it's a lot of hassle, IMO. And a decently mastered CD will trump my work everytime.
