The times are awfully close. It probably is the Hot Classics mix:
Don't Leave Me This Way. 9:23 / BPM 116.9.
Mix by Mystery Phased for Days
HOT Classics #5
Does anyone have any idea what version this is? It's listed as over 9 minutes and I doubt it's the Hot Tracks/Classics mix.I've never seen it before-any ideas and thanks....

Thanks Stephen-I think what confused me was that it sold for over a 100 dollars-thanks again

That particular bootleg was done by a Chicago DJ, in 1976, so the 12" on EBAY was the original bootleg and pretty rare. Most of the local jocks in Chicago referred to it as "Don't Phase Me This Way". it has been re-bootlegged (is that even a word) countless times. There is a clever slip in of "and the Motown hits just keep on coming" from the Motown Story LP, in the intro of "DLMTW". The main remixing was done to the break of the song, and the entire song is phased, from beginning to end. Quite a feat, consider this was done solely with tape splices and 2 turntables. The Hot Classics version, if I recall correctly, is the same, they just re-issued it.
The Hot Classics version is the same one.
Thanks for the back-story on that mix. :icon_biggrin: I never knew the origins of the "Phased For Days" mix. And I agree, it's done VERY well! And using the opening snippet from the TV commercial for "Motown's 64 Greatest Hits Collection", was a great idea! Actually, that trick was the inspiration for my starting out the "Reign Of The Disco Queens" medley with the opening of Casablanca's In-Store Airplay promo LP for TGIF!
But now you've got me wondering what the missing 12 seconds are, between the original bootleg and the Hot Classics pressing. Hmmm...:icon_confused:
Hot Classics did the same thing with the "Breakin' Away" medley that came out on bootleg. Tho', Steve Algozino added some synth sounds to it.
For the Hot Classics box-set, Chris Cox & Ron Hester completely re-EQ'd and re-Mastered DLMTY for CD, and the sound quality is dramatically improved.
