My friends in Vegas said the Frankie Valli version was the West Coast hit.
They'd never heard the original version by Odyssey, until it started showing-up on Disco Classic compilations.
*****
NATIVE NEW YORKER
performed by Odyssey
but also Frankie Valli :
Both came out in 1977.
Both arranged by Charlie Calello
Both share several of the same musicians ....
Has anybody heard Frankie's 5:18 version ? Or have a comment??

"MUSIC IS AN EMOTION, SEARCHING FOR IT'S VOICE"
...come with me, "BACK TO MUSIC", on DISCOTERIA

While I'm glad to learn he too cut that great tune, I'm more concerned by the LP cover photo
Is that Frankie Valli going glam ???
I almost thought it was Tim Curry for a sec
(and as an aside, I had read in the book "The Top Ten" that the gold medallion around his neck is inscribed My Eyes Adored You to commemorate his 1974-75 comeback hit following his '60s heyday).
The bullshit you recall, huh !
Huh. I may have to get that cd for his Disco take on "Walk Away Renee". :icon_eek:
And also this one:
Amazon.com: Close-Up/Valli: Frankie Valli: Music
for the ten-minute version :icon_exclaim: of "Swearin' To God", which I love.
Maybe I'm just a straight, suburban, white boy, but I love the Frankie Valli disco songs. :icon_lol: I recently picked up a cheap Valli/Four Seasons compilation cd because it has "Our Day Will Come" on it, unlike the previous compilation I have. I absolutely LOVE that song!! I put on the headphones, hit the 'Repeat' button, and must have listened to it fifteen or twenty times in a row one night. :icon_redface: :icon_lol:
Brian
I like his version of this song, one of my all time favs. Esther Phillips also did a version of "Native New Yorker", yet she changed the lyrics to the 1st person. I didn't like Esther's version.

He's done a very good version but for my money the Odyssey version is still the definitive version.
