I am a HUGE fan of Helen Terry's and was wondering if anyone knew what she's been up to these days. .After hearing her sing I know where the saying "It aint over till the fat lady sings comes from".She can really Blow~!! . Some of my favorite Culture Club tracks she lent her vocals to are Black Money, It's a Miracle, Victims and Church of The Poisioned Mind..she worked with Giorgio Moroder on the "Electric Dreams" Sound Track.
and did a duet with Ray Parker Jr for the Movie "Quicksilver but other than that I haven't heard anything from or about Helen..any feedback on Helen would be nice.
Be it info or you're opinion of her.
Her single off the "Electric Dreams" soundtrack is where I know her music from and I do have the 12" of "Now You're Mine" on Virgin. I recall it being a good track which I played quite a bit back in the day, but don't know anything about her. Curious what you dig up.

Oh, yeah!
The 1st thing that comes to me, whenever I remember "Church Of The Poison Mind"<----(brilliant song, btw...),
is her belting out "...the Poooi-son Mind!" at the end of the last chorus, before the big drop-out.
I think I have solo-stuff by Ms. Terry...:icon_confused: I'll flip thru the RazorMaids.![]()

Helen Terry released one solo album on Virgin which is quite good and includes her (biggest) singles "Love Lies Lost" and "Stuttering". It wasn't a succes so she was dropped by the label and signed with Parlophone for which she recorded a few singles, but no album was ever released.
She's an amazing singer but I believe she is now a documentary maker or something like that. hasn't recorded anything in ages...
PS the Ray Parker duet from Quicksilver is actually called One Sunny Day, not Summer's day
Loved Helen Terry too. 'Stuttering' was one of my favourite Pop dance tracks of the 80's and had many a great time dancing to it at the Bell, a club in London. You possibly would not get away with lyrics that go st st st stuttering these days but it was a fab tune. Early CD copies of the LP are much sought after and expensive I've heard. I too also heard she had turned her back on music and is a successful TV producer. She certainly had some lungs on her especially like Stephen said on 'Church of the poisoned mind'

Great thread Ms. Dayna; I always loved her backing vocals in Culture Club songs but never heard any of her solo stuff until now. Back in the day, when Culture Club first came out on the scene and I heard her voice (and I knew it wasn't Boy George), I thought she was black, and after founding out she had blue eyed soul I instantly became a fan but but later lost trace of her.
I always called her the British White Woman with soul. Her vocals remind me a lot of a white Martha Wash. Listening to some of her solo stuff now, it sounds like they didn't let her be her on her albums; sounds like they restricted her and didn't give her free reign to belt out the song and come from the heart which is what a great voice like hers needs to do.
Great singer. It's a shame we didn't hear more from her.

You can tell the colour of somebody just hearing him or her singing ? Waw ! :icon_biggrin:
I have an album, "Blue Notes", produced by Don Was globally, with the song "Stuttering" in a short mix. After that, at the end of the 80's she released a mini-lp with three songs, "Lessons in Loneliness", "Fortunate fool" and "Heart of a woman". Her voice is the main attraction but the synth-pop sound of the 80's wasn't exactly well suited for her. That's too bad.

I think now would be the perfect time for her to comback, as other Artists who were well known or out there in the 70's and 80's are beginning to record and even tour again. Though she wasn't that big, I think she would go over BIG in the first decade of the new mellenium, especially with the Culture Club/Boy George connection in which she could use that (if George and the rest give permission) as a launchpad.

Thanks Zef:icon_smile:....Nice to read what she's been up to..
and Yes Garry I think it would be great if she made a comeback and now would be a great time.I also thought Helen sounded like a sister..Just as I did with Teena Marie. In regards to the comment by Pierre.I don't think it's a bad thing to have an instinct about someones voice, let's be real, some people sound VERY white some sound VERY black.that's only fact, the only people that will deny it are ones on the Politically correct tip..I still say Helen and Teena may not be black but they definately are sisters or have as Garry calls it "Love it" (Blue Eyed Soul) because I'm called a sister by many of my dear friends and to me that's a compliment.
It means I connect on more than one level of understanding and communication and can sit down and kiki with people of all cultures and ethnic groups.
You go girl and, amen Sister!:icon_razz:

Helen Terry really caught my ear with her wailing on Culture Club's "That's the Way (I'm Only Trying to Help You)". Very Patti LaBelle-ish. But many back-up studio singers never got the chance to shine. I like "Now You're Mine" but I thought Giorgio Moroder's electronics weren't quite the right setting for a voice like hers.
