Oh that Faze-O "Ridin High" (1977) is a real stunner. the track was arranged by Ohio Players so I suggest you could turn to some of their more mellow funk grooves.
Also check out Leon Ware's "Why I Came To California" (1982) it has a simular appeal.
I logged onto Amazon.com to search for Bob Crewe Generation's "Street Talk"... and somehow got side tracked and ended up looking at something else...
Anyways, I will be getting a copy of a single by "Side Effect" called "Keep That Same Old Feeling"!!!! :D :D probably the LP Version. I love finding stuff like this.
This song was followed up with a similar sounding record by Faze-O entitled "Ridin' High" ... I became addicted to this sound. Similar songs evolved into the 80's starting with
SOS Band ...(when produced by Jam/Lewis). Then a whole slew of groups came out on MCA : 52nd Street & Loose Ends. Who else had similar sounding records... I know there is a lot of them...

I bought that Side Effect track when it was re-released on a doubled sided 12-inch with their version of Always There on the other side. I like that kind of groove too!
The best track of that genre that comes to mind is:
Leo's Sunshipp - Give Me The Sunshine (1980)
Yes it is spelt correctly - it is a wonderful sultry smooth groove. It is very difficult to find, so I gather, but worth getting hold of, nevertheless!
Leo's Sunshipp was included on 'Classic Mellow Mastercuts Vol 1'. Nice shout Jazz Pilgrim, 'Give Me The Sunshine' is a sublime record, and one which was very popular with the Jazz-Funk enthusiasts back in the day.
How bout:
Loose Ends - Gonna Make You Mine
SOS Band - Just The Way You Like It
SOS Band - Borrowed Love
Focus - Zero In July
and the faster paced jam
Side Effect------ Make You Mine
I Can not find that song on a compilation! Otherwize I wouldn't haven't gotten side tracked and bought the Single
"Keep That Same Old Feeling".... but no biggy I'll take the rare CD track![]()

I just got the copy of Side Effect "Keep That Same Old Feeling" from UPS today.... There are 4 versions of the song. (1) 4:29 (2) No Rap Version (Radio Edit)
(3) Drums & Bass & Vocals 4:22
(4) Remix Version 4:34
The song came out in 1977 (#22 soul Fantasy label)
.... You can tell they re-recorded it. Doghouse Records (1995) It sounds like a record in the mid 80's... Completely different... somebody may like it.. I don't necessary like it that much, but at least you know they're still alive :D .
It would have been real cool if they had the LP version just for old time sakes.
greg,
I still haven't been able to find that song that you posted as a smooth groove...
I made a new one for the road today:
1. Sly, Slick & The Wicked - Confessin' A Feeling (Ballad)
2. Isley Brothers - Secret Lover (Ballad)
3. Slave - Steal Your Heart
4. Odyssey - Inside Out
5. Pleasure - Sending My Love
6. Bill Summers - Call It What You Want
7. Lynx - You're Lying
8. Side Effect - Keep That Same Old Feeling
9. Jon B. - Don't Talk
10. Rene & Angela - I'll Be Good
11. Koffee Brown - After Party
12. Michael Jackson - You Rock My World
13. All Star Tribute - What's Going On
Efunk_adelic: Do you mean the Leo's Sunshipp track that Jazz_Pilgrim recommended and I seconded? If so, it was originally released in 1978 on the Atlanta based Lyons label. Not sure whether it was issued as a single in the US or just as an album track. It was a single here in the UK on both the Grapevine and Expansion labels.
