    Sandy Mercer

Does anybody know if "Play with Me" and "You are my Love" by Sandy Mercer are featured on any Disco Compilation?
I am reading "Vince Aletti Disco Files" and "found it" listed amongst other unknown...
Time ago i remember asking you about "Sweet Cream: I don't know what i'do" and i was advised to get the 12".
I don't remember saying thanks but when i got the record i really like it.
Im wondering if i am just about to make another "disco-very"! :icon_razz:

Hello Fabio-You will not be sorry buying this double "A" sided hit.Mixed by Walter Gibbons, both songs are both
peak records at different BPM's."Play With Me" is slower, a great "sleaze "track- relaxed and unhurried
with a great vocal by Sandy."You Are My Love" is uptempo with several breaks that build in intensity-
I'm sure both of these are much loved by alot of us.
I don't know of any compilations on CD but "You Are
My Love" may be on one of those oddball compilations
that you find at "Medium Rare Records" in San Francisco.Regardless, buy the 12" you won't regret it.

    Hey Fabio,

It's an odd coincidence that I just found the Sandy Mercer 12" on my last trip to Amoeba. I hadn't been record shopping for at least a year--yeah, there's a recession goin' on!!! But on last Good Friday, I wandered over there and, at long last, found Miss Mercer for $9.99.

I had previously only had the 2 tracks on a tape made for me by Svend. Thanks again, Svendy!!!!

Embarrassingly, I haven't played anything I bought that day :icon_confused: --but now that you mentioned it---after the Hall & Oates cd is done, I will spin this. :icon_cool:

BTW, "Querelle" arrived. Started it late last night--but I have to start over today when I'm fresher and more receptive! It was an oddball movie--very stylized and even though everyone was speaking English, it felt like it should be in a foreign language. :icon_exclaim:

Definitely! Get the Sandy Mercer 12". "You Are My Love" is an underrated, nearly-forgotten classic. And her follow-up on RCA, "Work Your Body"/"Now That You're In It" ain't half bad, either.

Well Thank you to all of you who took the time to advise me about this record. Thanks to my friend Simon here in UK who was able to get me a copy of Sandy Mercer album : Hey Love, Come and Get it, from where the two tracks i have mentioned previously, were taken.
Between "You Are My Love" and "Play With Me" I like the last one which i find more unusual and ....playfull than the first one.
Here a few notes i found on the www regarding this artist:

Sandy Mercer was born in a small town called Gary, West Virginia.
Her ability to sing was noticed by her grandmother at the age of five. In grammar school she was permitted to leave the classroom to perform in talent shows. Sandy has performed and done background with many of the well known names in the musical world such as, Bobby Womack, O. V. Wright, Santana, Double Trouble, Bill Howard and Smoke,
Mary Morrow, We The People, and The Bar Kays, just to name a few. Sandy Mercer has performed as a solo artist on a number of recording projects of her own....

If anybody is into Sandy Mercer’s “Now That You’re In (What Cha Gonna Do About It)” it's worth picking up the UK H&L/Phonogram JUMBO 011 Promo 12" which has a different - much better mix in my opinion - to the one that’s on the US RCA PD-11561 12".

I think the mix of “The Work Your Body (Work That Body)” is the same on both the UK and US 12’s.

There's a very good re-working (no major changes...just a better flow) of "You Are My Love", on the one-time-only 1983 "Love Tracks" issue, from Hot Tracks.

I bought up various Sandy Mercer titles I could find from Hugo & Luigi. They really did a great job with her.

But there's a great track from '83 she did which sounds like it could have been a break dancing anthem, but I don't see it ever mentioned anywhere. It's called 'Give Me Your Love'. It sounds like something that one of those rap groups on Enjoy records would have recorded. I like those records, so this one is really up my alley!

    Check out this sound sample

    Give Me Your Love

It would probably mix nicely into or out of this cut
