Midnight In Manhattan (Whole LP) - Seventh Avenue ..in no doubt this is a brilliant piece of work and any hard core disco lover out there should check this LP out if you arnt familiar with it, id say it ranges as one of my fave disco LP's of all time.

Ahh, Remain in Light... that's what I call a true masterpiece of disco-rock-funk! Too bad it was never played at the discos, at least around here.
One of the best albums of its time, IMHO. Still grooves like hell.

"Born Under Punches" was played in the discos over in the USA, that was the main underground play track over here. Yes, great LP it is.

I didn't realize that the CD reissue of TGIF is now out-of-print. I bought mine almost four years ago.

That was a good album, although I think it could've been expanded to include a lot of the other songs from the movie that didn't make it to the LP, such as "Down To Love Town" (Originals), "Meco's Theme" (Meco), and "I'm Here Again" (Thelma Houston). I would've never known about the supposed "poor" quality of Donna Summer's "Je T'Aime" (from another thread) because I think it sounds great on CD.

I agree that that sucks. I purchased BOTh the 2 CD original which ran the tunes in the order of the LP and did it non stop like the LP AND the 10 track limited version whicxh although had the LP versions lacked a number of good tracks.

My idea would have had a box set The fiull soundtrack 12' versions of those 12" singles (the 10 12"' promo only set) some of the 12"s ended up on the LP anyway others didn't. -some of the 12' promo only mixes found their way on the Casablanca box set,a third CD featuring all the other tracks and then the film itself on DVD.

In the summer of 1995, I bought the original TGIF album at a oldies record shop in Greenwich Village. For me this was awesome because I loved that movie and never heard the soundtrack. I was expecting to hear a non-stop, segued mix of the tracks, just like they were on most Casablanca's artists' albums, especially Donna Summers'. Although it didn't turn out that way, I got used to it. I think another thing that let me down was that the versions on the album were quite different than it was in the movie. In the movie, Diana Ross' "Lovin' Livin' and Givin'" has a tropical sound to it. On the album, it is mechanized a la Moroder. Thelma Houston's "Love Masterpiece" also sounds different. On the album version, Thelma puts a lot more "uumph" in her vocals as opposed to the regular-sounding film version. Even D.C. LaRue's "Do You Want The Real Thing" sounds slightly different. Oh, I shouldn't waste my time nitpicking like this; I love the album and that's final.

The only group I know of who sang a song called "Infatuation" is Upfront. That song came out around 1983. Could that be it??

Also comedian Jamie Foxx as well as Marcus Miller made songs called "Infatuation". I doubt it's any of these though.

As for the TGIF stuff, in the movie alot of the songs were just compressed different for film play. Diana Ross "Livin Lovin And Givin" in the film is the original LP mix and on the soundtrack they put an edited version of the 12" remix. Thelma Houston "Love Masterpiece" is a single edit version on the TGIF LP as well as The Commodores "Too Hot Ta Trot" and Wright Brothers Flying Machine "Leatherman Theme". As for the 12" promos, Donna Summer "Last Dance" and Pattie Brooks "After Dark" are the same versions as on the promo 12"rs. The CD reissue (the good one on Casablanca not generic one from Rebound Records with the selections from) was a very good remaster and fixed all the horrable quality of the original vinyl, even making "J Taime" in full stereo. Woulda been great to have another CD added to that rerelease with all the tracks in the film not on the soundtrack, "You Can Always Tell A Lady" by DC Larue I found out was released as a 12" B Side only in the UK and is not on any Larue LP, thats probably the most rare track in the film that didnt go on the soundtrack.

I don't know anyone who dislikes "All Night Thing". It's so hip and easy to sing and dance-a-long to.

Robbie guessed the mystery group that sang "Infatuation" - UPFRONT from 1983. I think they might be another one of those one hit wonders.
