It is a bit Jabara-ish isn't it? It also reminds me a bit of 'Fire Island' by Dante's Inferno; could this be because Ron Dante worked with Manilow often? I s'pose it's no surprise that Manilow ventured into disco-land more than once - he was a 'bachelor' living in New York & got his break performing at the Continental Baths. (Quelle surprise!) & it WAS 1979 - was there a single LP released then that didn't have a disco-esque track on it?

I remember this one and all disco fans jumped on this one because it was the only thing remotely danceable on the album.

Another one that comes to mind is The Last Duet with Lily Tomlin from his 1980 Barry Lp.
A sortof tribute to other recent duets in pop music (Enough is enough/You don't bring me flowers/Don't go breaking my heart...etc) and it's all set to a bubbly disco beat.

    I absolutely loved this one...

My sister, being the Fanilow that she is, bought all of Barry's albums whenever they were released...so I was always familiar with this song.

At the time someone suggested trying to spot all the different puns.I must admit that reading the printed lyrics was a lot of fun...And Lily doing her best "Barbra humming" was a highlight, indeed.

    My favorite line is :

    Toniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight - With you I'm booooooooored...again.

    Re: Barry Manilow & Disco

Hey, SandraDee ! Barry's "I'm Your Man" was a top-ten dance chart hit in the U.S., but was far less successful on pop radio. It's actually quite decent, and by the mid-80s, Manilow was no longer the U.S. mover/shaker on the charts that he was in his 1975-79 heyday, so for his tune to successfully compete against all the '80s synth pop hits of the day was quite an accomplishment.

And let's all not forget Barry's first foray into disco, 1975's "It's A Miracle" (with its extremely discofied introductory arrangement), making Barry the 2nd most significant white pop artist of disco's early years to successfully "go disco" (following Frankie Valli and his great "Swearin' To God").

oh yes, that's QUITE dance-able! I'd still wonder, though, how real or intense Manilow's interest in dance music was/is, because he was certainly in a position to actually work with some of disco's top producers if he'd wanted to. He was bold enough to work with legends like Mel Torme and Sarah Vaughan. I always wondered why he never seemed to work with Streisand (though it's possible he did).

I first became aware of I'm your man when I saw it shoot up the Hi-NRG chart in Record Mirror (My bible !!!!).

After I went ???? I knew I just had to get it...and I soon found a copy in a used record store.

The sound of the drum is so strong & upfront - and Barry's voice is great on this electro/pop number.

He did end up recording a duet with Barbra. On her 2002 Duets album ; the new recording was an original Barry Manilow/Richard Marx song called I won't be the one to let go.Mariah Carey's producer,Walter Afanasieff & Marx produced the track.

When I'm out for love or sin
Oh it's good to be in town
In the funky dives, on the old West Side
    There's always something goin' down
Yes, I live my life with strangers
    And the danger's always there
But when I hit Broadway and it's time to play
And you know that I don't care

"New York City Rhythm" by Barry Manilow - used to play it a lot, real hot latin disco! Will dust it off and spin it again asap.
