    MFSB versus Salsoul Orchestra

    Ok fellas,

let's put some fire on this FORUM. As I said on other topic, I prefer MFSB records to SALSOUL ORCHESTRA's. But I wanna know your opinion: which group recorded the best songs/albums in your opinion?

This is the score now: MFSB 1 x 0 SALSOUL ORCHESTRA

Let's see what happens in the end...

Zeca, You can change that score to 2 - 0 in favour of MFSB.

It's not really my kind of thing to put groups up against each other like that but I wanted to lay it down anyway.

I tend to get a bit bored after listening to a few Salsoul orch. tracks in a row - that never happens with MFSB. Gamble / Huff really were genius at what they did. "Mysteries Of the World" is one of my all time favorite albums.
    There was life after disco!!

    MFSB that's 3-0.
However, I have to say that neither particularly pushed my buttons. I found MFSB to be rather hit and miss both from track to track and within tracks.
Take 'Sexy' as an example. It's really funky and really gets down in parts but then you have the 'chorus' with more of a pure disco/hustle feel and that bloody awful/cheesey sax overlay that ruins the whole vibe (for me). As for things like 'K-Jee' and 'TSOP' don't even go there.
'Mysteries Of the World' was probably their most satisfying and even that has the breakdown in it that used to lose people from the floor. Arrggghhhh!!!!!!

    Make it 4-0 to MFSB!

Much as I like the Salsoul Orch, as I think that "Salsoul Hustle" had a pretty decent hard edge to it, I will have to go with MFSB. TSOP to me was one of those seminal 70Ts Philly records that always seemed to be on the radio. And it always seemed to be summer wehen it was on!

I think K-Jee was the best track off Saturday Night Fever, and Mysteries Of The World was very popular with the soul crowd I used to hang out with.

This is a tough one indeed; However, you can continue pitching the shutout for MFSB. This in no way means I do not like Salsoul or slight their music in anyway; 'Magic bird of fire' is one of my favorites. However, MFSB is partial to me for a couple of reasons. The Philly sound of disco is a big part of me being that I live an hour away from Philadelphia. 'Mysteries of the world' and 'K-Jee, I've mentioned before as faves of mine; And as for 'Love is the message', #2 on my top 25 list to Bernie. 'Nuff said. Although I will mention another track by MFSB that is a bit obscure, 'Poincietta'. A smooth acid jazzy instrumental that I've always enjoyed. Salsoul deserves respect, but MFSB is my personal choice. Great debate for sure.

    Easy,

6 - 0 MFSB! As much as I love Salsoul Orchestra, "You're Just The Right Size", "Magic Bird Of Fire", "Salsoul Rainbow", all of it, MFSB just seems a little tighter to me. Things like "Poinciana", "Sexy", "Love Is The Message", "Love Has No Time Or Place", even the very simple "Let's Go Disco" show they can capture all kinds moods in varied musical styles. MFSB's renditions of "Touch Me In The Morning" and "Summertime" will always kick butt.
