The works of producers - PT 2 - George Duke

Well, I didn't get too many replies on part one. But here it goes anyway: Part 2.

Your favorite George Duke produced track??

I'll stil go for his own "Reach Out" (1983) from the "Guardian of The Light" album.
    There was life after disco!!

I love a lot of his stuff. Scuse me Miss, Carnival, Brazilian Love Affair of his own tracks, spring to mind.

For me, he lost it a bit in the 80's after Brazilian Love Affair and went for a slightly bland, formuliac, overly comercial sound. Still buy his CD's now though.

"I Want You For Myself" was one of our favorite early morning tunes back during the Trocadero days. Those vocals! At Aloha Records, we used to be able to sell the promotional twelve inch single for quite a bit of money.

    Hi,

George Duke is a great musician and produced lots of great records not just for himself, but for other artists like DENIECE WILLIAMS and THE BLACKBYRDS. If we're talking exclusively about his funk/disco output, my favorite track is and it will always be SHINE ON. Great dance track, love to play this one at parties.

    Peace,

On the jazz side: Brazilian Love Affair
On the soul side: I Want You For Myself - real class IMHO
On the funk side: Dukey Stick

One thing I always liked about George Duke was his versatility.

I'll always love George Duke for Reach For It which just has to be one of THE Slinkiest, Dirtiest, Low Down Funk grooves ever recorded. Yum Yummmmmmm!!

Otherwise put me down for most of the above, plus Thief In The Night from '85/86, which for some reason, made me feel good to be alive whenever I played it. Never had a great dance floor reaction though.

I have to agree with Quinny on Reach For It - I forgot to mention that one. That is an excellent track!
If it moves - funk it!!
