Going at it in Stockholm, Sweden

The vinyl stores in Stockholm have joined forces and give out nice folded guides, with a map of all the businesses of the St. Eriksgatan region. This somewhat rundown part of the otherwise fabulous Stockholm really is something if you're a dance music fanatic. There's 16 stores there around the St. Eriksplan underground station so be prepared to spend the entire day. The best is Nitty Gritty, opposite the enormous vinyl emporium called Nostalgia palatset ( 101 St. Eriksgatan). Nitty has a great selection of 12-inchers and like everywhere else you can listen to the vinyls before you buy. No 12-inchers at the Nostalgia but seemingly 100 000 or so 7-inchers. This place has now topped Metropol Rock of Rome in my book - hundreds of odd eurodisco realeses from 1977 you never heard of, many with sleeve images to die for. Hiphoppers, nerds, trendies, all sorts of patrons prowse on the narrow aisles in awe. The Record hunter at 70 St. eriksgatan is good as well but does not file the disco stuff. - There's still more in Stockholm to please the most jaded of tastes. Recordmania on Ostgotagatan (up on the hill) is good, as is Snickars records on Repslagsgatan. Plenty of US realeses, not that many euro eccentrities there though.
among others, I got Bailando by The Daniel Sentacruz Ensemble, a ferocuous latin percussion bash, plus
    Steven Schlaks: Fantasy Girl
Hurricane Fifi: Keep her on the move / do you want me cheri
Pretty Maid Co: Pretty Maid - the full 12" version
Jackie Robinson: Moving like a superstar - like above
White Fever: dancing like a superstar - a nice semi-cover
    Charie Calello: dance dance dance
Wayne St. John: Somethin's up - the instrumental sounds just like Two Hot For Love
    Cerrone Live 1978 2-lp
Chi Chi Favelas: Rock solid , with Discocaine
    Capflight: dance'h Fly
Class: get your chic together - Bobby dj mix
Sarah Brightman&Hot Gossip: Starship Trooper, US mix
The Wiz: Bway cast lp, with Tornado
Capy&Capy - this is the Italian duo Giovanni mentioned. The woman looks hot but the man is an enormous fat slob
Roberta Kelly: Kung Fu is back again - a 7" from 1974

    Jussi,

Would we Americans know what we're looking at in these stores? It seems sooo much was released overseas that never made it here. That's always made apparent in some of the titles you mention. In spite of that, I think I'd have a helluva good time shopping in that area. Have to take you with me so I don't pass up the good stuff. :)

BTW, that Italian duo you mention, Capy&Capy --- do you mean Gepy & Gepy or is this someone else entirely?

As a matter of fact, the duo is indeed "GEPY & GEPY". To tell the truth, this was not a duo, but a single singer (Gepy) with his harem of vocalists (Gepy). The name was chosen to raise some curiosity and his bigger hit was "Body to body". I am quite sure the record was released, beyound Italy, in Germany and Canada.

Why, look for a flash of leopard skin fabric, a hip thrust foward provocatively, a wild perm, multiple layers of rimmel and other timeless signs of perfect taste of course :) Most of those 7-inchers had vivid sleeve imagery to attract buyers, and most of the stockholm stores wisely file everything correctly so one can go directly to the disco, ajazz, funk, easy, rare groove etc. depts and start digging. One can take the interesting stuff to the Technics for listening before buying, too. As for going hunting in packs - I don't think that would be such a good idea. "I know for a fact that you own a copy of Veronique's "Strip Me" , so you should let ME have that! No, it was I who saw that copy of "Mamacita - donde Esta santa Claus" by Charo first, give it here! Okay, if you let me have the Kissy Kissy I'll hand over the Lovely Lady! Clerk! Arrest that evil person who grabbed that Marisa Mell sevenincher with the picture sleeve, an original Ariola pressing for gods sake!" and so on. - Gepy it is of course...
