"Way down in Louisiana close to New Orleans; way back up in the woods among the evergreens; stood a log cabin made of earth and wood; lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode; Who never ever learned to read and write so well but he could play the guitar just like wringin a bell"umgd
It's interesting to hear the opinions and reactions to the talents of the Adam Lambert personality. It certainly makes me question just how far we've actually come along as a society.
Back in the 70s, Lambert would have just been regarded as an avant-garde rock artist similar to a David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Steve Tyler, Mick Jagger, etc and accepted for his artistic output rather than the discomfort of his questionable sexuality. Was Bowie or Jagger ever dismissed by mainstream society BITD? If anything, their overt flamboyancy was applauded. Even when Culture Club hit the charts in the early 80s, the Boy George persona was surprisingly accepted despite many people's reservations and icky feelings towards him.
Is he too much for American Idol? Sadly, I think he may be at this point in time but I believe America is coming to the end of its era of conservatism and puffed-up feelings of superiority which could ultimately bring around an air of humility and reluctant acceptance of all that is different.

I thought his version of Ring Of Fire was Erasure-esque. I liked it.
But I don't watch the show like I did the first 2 or 3 years.
I will say that the experiment/show has helped many kick off recording and Broadway careers.
