Shéna Winchester: GREAT New CHIC-esque Single

There is a GREAT new tune being played on Radio 2 over here in the UK - SHENA "can't stop the rain' - It is IMHO the BEST Disco tune that captures the Chic sound since BITD. (Even better than the Alcazar releases)!

I haven't got any release info apart from downloads available next week....but not sure about the 'hardware'.

If you like Chic, You should Love this ..:icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin:

    Excellent.
A very "I want your love" sounding song.

She's on the BBC Radio2's playlist:

Her full name is Shéna Winchester, she's from Surrey and she's quite big now, at least in England and France.
Friday she sings in the French city of Montpellier (Hed Kandi France on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads) and after that she's in England.

It's not a bad tune at all, I think they may have been listening to "I want your love"!

Some more nice tunes on her myspace page too, one being "Nasty Little Rumour" which is more Chic-ery style business, very catchy and deserves a good bit of radio play... for some reason I now want to play "Miss Manhattan"

I think it sounds alot like Ultra Nate's 'New Kind Of Medicine' from the late 90s. It sounds more like 'real music' than much 'nu-disco'. Good for her.

In the clip, Shèna's white dress is very much in the style of Amii Stewart's ("Knock on wood" clip and album). The only big difference is the colour. See it at 1:55 in the clip.

You're right, her look's very influenced by Amii's isn't it? I wonder if that's intentional? All she's missing is Amii's big 'loops' on her head!

Wow, now this I like. Very classy yet catchy. I was not going to bother checking the links at first, thinking it would be another sample-fest using Chic riffs like Alcazar. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised.

    Wow!!
Nice track. I have the promo CD of the Album and thats not on it unfortunately. They must be re-doing the album. 'Nasty little rumour' is also great to as is 'One man woman' that got a lot of underground radio and club play in the UK in it's club version.
I really like Shena she did some great tracks in the late 90's (More than woman, Let the beat hit em) and did many guest vocals on dance tracks. Nice to see hear getting mainstream airplay. I hope there is a nice long remix of Cant stop the rain that maintains it's Chiciness!

    E-mail response regarding single:

    "Hi Keith,

Shena asked me to reply to your enquiry about 'Can't stop the rain' being available overseas.

We are currently in negotiations to license the track to several overseas territories including USA and Canada and hope to make it available in the near future.

Delighted that you like the track, please register on www.shena.co.uk and you will be advised of developments via her regular newsletter.

    Very kind regards

What is the exact meaning of "overseas"?
    - America only ;
    - Europe and America.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't know about Europe, but the song is currently available for download in the UK. I was inquiring about the US.

Amazon.co.uk just posted remixes to be available on April 13. Here's the link:

Can't Stop The Rain (remixes): Shena: Amazon.co.uk: MP3 Downloads

Not really old school remixes I think, but worth checking out. And no sign of a release outside the UK yet :-(

Re: Shéna Winchester: GREAT New CHIC-esque Single

Can't wait until Monday 13th April to download all four remix tracks! I was disappointed when the original release was a single track download and to extend it I have to loop it using digital software, so here's to Monday!!!!

This track is getting UK airplay but it is not charting - why, oh why not??????

Perhaps you have to be a serious CHIC fan to love this to bits - I am and I do!!!! And I downloaded it at 1 minute past minute on the day of release.

So refreshing to have new music that doesn't regurgitate old school tracks, but actually builds on what was a tried and tested CHIC formula - I'm just surprised Nile Rodgers didn't come up with this as it really could have been written by him and the late Bernard Edwards.

Not sure Nile and 'Nard would have done an "I Want Your Love" re-write though ;-)

Seriously though, I also don't understand why this song isn't charting, it's a great song, she's a great singer and the video is well made. Maybe she just isn't hip enough for today's kids- and dance music has been having a hard time charting on the UK charts lately...

Well for those of us fortunate to live in the UK and able to download the four remixes - they are certainly worth the money!!!! This track gets better and better with each remix. I'm just listening to the 7th Heaven Club Mix and it is brilliant! What a cool tune. What a breath of fresh air. What a sensation our Shena Winchester is!!! Go get these remixes (and the original) available now on download from the usual sources!

That's exactly why it's not charting - the public today generally don't recognise class when they hear it.:icon_evil:

So true - it really is good to be cool and hip :icon_lol: these days, it's just that not many people admit to it!

Almost three months after, where are we? Are the album or singles available anywhere?
