AFP: Selon Cerrone, "la musique est voue devenir gratuite"

The interview is in French but what Cerrone is actually saying is that he believes that Music will become free in the near future. Artists will have to get their revenues from other activities (concerts, goodies, ...)

That's why the French Discomeister will give his new album for free (download) on

Radio FG : webradio - radio - mix - electro - house - techno - dance - rnb - tecktonik - tck

But only from the 9th till the 14th of March 2009. The album will be commercially released on the 16th of March!

Love the album cover! Kind of reminds me of the old disco album covers...sexy, provocative, tasty, sensual, nice-n-nasty, you name it! Can't wait to hear what it sounds like. I know it won't sound like the old disco sound (or maybe it will?), but hey, at least it's one of our favorite Producers/arrangers/artists, whatever!

I hope other Disco Producers will also come out of the closet. Just think; if the majority of them come out of hiding and start storming on to the dance/techno scene, then the name disco could/might come back along with it (I think and hope!). Come on y'all, let's have revival!

Little bit of a disappointment...in my opinion strayed from his bread and butter but I believe this sound is what he was composing before disco; sounds like a glorified jazz album; can't believe he re-released "Music of Life," one of my "groove" favorites from the disco era. All in all, it's a good album for jazz, light soul, and easy R&B enthusiasts.

P.S. - I think, and know that he could have done better; wasn't expecting a disco sound, but if Donna can come out with hits, he can too, and he was on a par with Donna, Giorgio, etc. "back in the day."

Agreed 100%..
Even though the name "Cerrone" still holds much Credibility most of the music buying public know nothing of the politics involved in what goes into a colaboration or how the sound changes from as Stephen stated the writing process.
I wouldn't mind hearing something jazzy or breezy R&B-ish from Cerrone as Garry stated it to be genre linked to the CD as long as I wasn't expecting die hard Disco before I put the Disc in my player.

Agreed but this is not really a new Cerrone album. It's an update of old songs by Swiss remixer Jamie Lewis just as Bob Sinclar has done before.

Jamie took the mostly well known stuff and gave it a 2009 twist, aimed at the current Dance scene. If you expect the vintage Symfo-Disco Cerrone, you might indeed be a little disappointed.

And as usual he covers some of his own songs.

Like I said, I agree and I'm hoping for a brand new Cerrone in the future too because like Stephen says, if he collaborates with a team of Dance producers, something very different can come out of it. Let's wait and see.

The funny part of the French article is where Marc says: "People are sampling me big way for many years now, people are pirating all my old albums and offer them for a free download and I must confess, I never made so much money before, I'm doing great. That's why I think that the music retail biz is dying! If all those people offer my stuff for free, then who am I for not doing it myself. That's why I have decided to give away the new MIX-CD".

Yes, Jamie is known, he even has a weekly show on FG Paris. Has done a lot of remixes over the recent years.

I wasn't expecting the same disco sound or even a symphonic sound similar to disco, but was expecting something updated along the dance genre (updated), and obviously this was not the case as he picked Jaime to Produce and guide the album; I like Jazz, but it is not my favorite or something I listen to everyday; if I want Jazz, believe me there's a lot of it out there to choose from. But someone of the caliber and history of Cerrone, in my opinion, could have done better as the millions of people that got him to where he is are disco and dance based.:icon_confused:

And yes, I will admit and testify, I am a "die hard" disco fan; but not too die hard to be resistant to change (It took a while but after disco died, I accepted the change and went on as most of us did).

I am hoping he comes out with something new soon, totally new with a dance/techno edge or base to it; something to wow his old fans as well as the present and/or future ones.:icon_cool:

Just listened to the 30 seconds excerpts on iTunes and it is still very danceable.

But how many times can Cerrone recycle the same 12 songs ????

I'm liking the clips and see it as a respectful and appreciative treatment for some of Cerrone's material so I'll be eagerly downloading the album. The songs have that smooth lounge house/ Hed Kandi sound that's been popular for years in Ibiza and Paris...in my opinion, very reminiscent of the sweet sound of disco. Other djs that are faithful to this sound are Maurice Joshua (soul house), Mauve, Eric Kupper (one of the best!) and my favourite Grant Nelson!

But folks, this is a house remix album. Jamie Lewis is a highly respected Swiss house producer/remixer. My only regret with this is that their not really new tracks - I have most of these remixes already.

Oh well.

Guys, don't be so disappointed, what were you expecting? This is just Cerrone :icon_biggrin:. This guy has always been a specialist of recycling! His 80's albums are full of covers of his own songs.

Some of his songs are good, ok, but he did a lot of rubbish. And I'm not even mentionning the awful "Oops oh no" with LaToya Jackson and his 90's albums... a time when nobody was caring of them and he was living writing cheap crime and murder novels ("Le rat" and "Névrose"). Cerrone, an icon? At least in his own country he isn't one :icon_lol: (and actually, never was)!

Today released Cerrone-interview on piracy and the reason why he decided to give away the new album:

OK. The subject is the project of a law called Hadopi (Haute autorité pour la diffusion des œuvres et la protection des droits sur Internet), a gradual system of fines and penalties for people dowloading music illegally on the internet. The deputies discussed this law yesterday at the Assemblée nationale but the free downloading of Cerrone's latest album has nothing to do with it. It's just a way of promote his album in association with a big Parisian radio (named FG, Fréquence gaie, a gay radio specialised in dance music). For Cerrone this law can't work anyway.He defends internet as a communication tool very useful for him because he's not a major and not an artist with hit songs either. He's glad that nowadays radios are no more the only ones to decide the future of an artist. In his case, he doesn't sell many records but he gets large amounts of money from filmmakers or advertising companies who are using his songs.
