Word Up! Their one record I'd take to an island paradise as a desert Island disc. Overplayed, oversexed and really big over here.
I just love the music from these guys. I saw them in concert back around 1977 when they were I guess the "warm-up" act for Bootsy Collins.
OK, my selection here could be quite large because they did so many great songs but I'll control myself. For the classic disco era I'll pick "Find My Way" with "Rigor Mortis" being a very close second. My favorite overall however is "Attack Me With Your Love." Love that song and love that video. Others worth a mention are "She's Strange", "Candy" and "It's Serious."
Find them and destroy them!

My favorite uptempo Cameo tracks are:
Single Life
She's Strange
but i've always thought the group made some very strong ballads as well as midtempo grooves too.
Stuff like:
You're A Winner
Hangin' Downtown
I've Got Your Image
...and the jazzy "Love You Anyway"
Wonder why they changed so much for the worse after the Word Up Album??
I will go with:
It's Serious - for its serious groove
On The One - remember that WHOAH-OH chant?
She's Strange - the xxx-rated Room 123 remix. Brilliant lyrics!
:)
Classic Cameo cuts Forrrce feeled:
'It's Serious' (natch)
'Stand Up'
'Ugly Ego'
'Knights By Night'
'She's Strange'
'Just Be Yourself'
'The Sound Table'
'Cameosis'
'Throw It Down'
'Back And Forth'
Word up! But not...
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Hi Paul
I'm not a Cameo fan but there were two hits that I enjoyed
"Single Life"
"She's Strange"
What was the lead singer's name?? Larry something??
Do you remember the hightop hairdo that he used to wear and that infamous red patent chrome cup
Whatever happened to him? When the 80's vanished so did they.
*DISCO DELIGHT*
Hustlebaby:
The singer's name is Larry Blackmoon. Apart from cameo he had his own label "Atlanta Artists". He also produced music for Ca$hflow and Barbara Mitchell among others.
Cameo still exist and they've been recording throughout the 90s as well. Only thing is: nobody seems to care about it.
Guess they're doing their business around the oldies circuit just like Gap Band, Con Funk Shun and a lot of the other great bands of the day.
Hiiii Delight 8)
I like Single Life too. Larry Blackmon's red dick cup (as I like to call it) drew a lot of attention from women and perhaps some gay men.
To follow along with K-bee. I saw Larry on some show recently. I seem to remember him saying something about being in the studios recording and/or producing.
Someone mentioned a xxx version of "She's Strange." I don't think I heard that one. Any more info on it?

The Room 123 Version of She's strange clocks at 6:58. getting the " 12" collection and more" that Mercury released on cd as part of their "Funk Essentials" series in 1999.
It also has a previously unreleased remix of "Back And Forth"
I will dig out my 12-inch and give you some more details, Paul ... and I will try to scribble down some of the lyrics - if I can!Originally Written by paul
Thanks a lot Jazz and K-Bee. I look forward to more info.

"Candy" is my favorite Cameo song.
Dance With Me In The Disco Heat

Robbie
Paul :)
Larry's "red dick cup" was certainly a conversation piece! Women and gay men used to wonder what was inside that cup! Hmmm.......It was so BIG and red, we hardly looked at his face  . And to be honest with you, I don't remember the faces of his fellow band members. Robbie reminded me of another hit of Cameo's "CANDY".

I love "Sparkle" (Yayee, yayee, yay, anh-ha; yayee, yayee, yay...)
And of course "She's Strange," "Back and Forth," and the early "Find My Way."

the group with multi talent and good ballads.
favorite cuts
It's Serious
Candy
Shake Your Pants
Flirt
Why Have I Lost You
Single Life
I Just Want To Be
I'd put "Word Up" but I played the S*** out of it and used it during the prime time back in the day... that I don't care for it anymore
