    Re: Name this song

M.F.S.B. "Poinciana" and Gato Barbieri "Poinciana" are two that come to mind.

I'd suggest that it would be a good idea to give your threads/topics a more individual title name rather than just "Name this song" every time, it would make it easier to keep track of them, and we'd know if we'd looked at a particular one before.

Paradise Express did a fabulous version of Poinciana, but it wasn't instrumental so completely ignore my totally useless contribution!

    Re: Name this song

"Poinciana", from Frankie Crocker's Heart & Soul Orchestra's Disco Suite Symphony No.1 in Rhythm and Excellence, on Casablanca 1976, was completely instrumental. And, I might add, one of, if not the most beautiful cut on the 2 LPs.
With the strings arranged by Gene Page, everything has that swirly, lush, Love Unlimited sound to it.

I must note that there's vocalists listed by the poster of the LP info below. But ignore that, as there's no vocals, at all, on the LP.

Here it is as an instrumental by MFSB, except the arrangement's a bit abstract
