The Accompanying Disco Release To Penthouses's "Shameful" Movie CALIGULA

    *****

    CALIGULA (1979) !!

    Roger Ebert
at the time had this to say about it :

    "sickening, utterly worthless, shameful trash."
Perhaps the most scathing comment to ever appear in one of Ebert's reviews is attributed to a third party:
"This movie", said the lady in front of me at the drinking fountain, "is the worst piece of **** I have ever seen!"

This was also one of the few (if only) films Ebert ever walked out of; "two hours into its 170 minute length.`'
    ________________

Reviewer Leonard Maltin said the film was little more than
"chutzpah and six minutes of not-bad hardcore footage."
    ________________

    Newsweek magazine called Caligula
"a two-and-one-half-hour cavalcade of depravity that seems to have been photographed through a tub of Vaseline."wiki
So how were the reviews of the disco song released in conjunction with it ....

    ???

The guitar solo kinda ruins it but still, it's a good track, very uselful to seque out of the classical version.
But the film, a massive turd to some, a priceless diamond to others. Many an illustrious critis now hails it as a mad, colorist masterpiece. Already, there have been Tinto Brass hommages at prestigious cinematheques all over the globe. This, "Salon Kitty" and "Paprika", the top three Brass pics if u ask me.

Nice find Remmy! I adore this kinda of French-Touch-Disco!

As for the movie. The full length (uncensored) version was forbidden in Belgium BITD. Years ago I bought the uncut DVD and I have to say, it's rude, raw but I guess that the reality in Rome, in the Caligula days was like this. Emperor C was a madman, Roman orgies were described in ancient texts as frequent and over the top.

I saw "Paprika" once, it's ok and I'm sure that Jussi has seen the Joe D'Amato version of "Caligula" too!

Now, THAT got originally banned in my country, I only saw it later. "Galigula La Storia Mai Raccontata" was shown intact in very few places on this globe, due to the scene in which the...the...the...well, as I'm not the one who brought up this particular film I'm not going any further, thank you :-)

aww ..... how sweet and romantic this "Love Theme" to Caligula ..

Roger Ebert called the movie " shameful "

I wonder his thoughts regarding this accompanying love theme ???? :icon_confused::icon_confused:

    seems innocent enough ......
