Question Lipstique - At the discotheque ? Clips ?

Anybody here remember to have seen "At the discotheque" at TV ?

    Any TV appearances ?

    I love this song!

    Thanks!

One of my favorite full-side pieces!
But collectors beware! The releases are like night and day...

The US version, on the Salsoul/Tom & Jerry LP, is terribly watered-down from the original.
Much like the US releases of Theo Vaness' "Back To Music" and D.D. Sound's "Cafe", Lipstique's "At The Discoteque" LP, was fairly butchered for the US market release.

The US version on the Prelude LP, is terribly watered-down from the original.

My US copy is on Tom & Jerry...

totally different sleeve to my Canadian copy on Mercury, but I didn't think the music was any different. The Canadian sleeve shows a track on side two called "Goodnight Sweetheart" but it's not actually on the label or the disc.

You're right about the US label being Tom & Jerry. My bad. I was thinking faster than I was typing. (Vaness was on Prelude, in the US)

The Mercury copy, from 1977, has Korduletsch's original mixes.
Moulton remixed the LP for the Salsoul/Tom & Jerry release, in 1978.

I have it on LP, which I think was a Lollipop version, because it sounded similar to the mix on the Hot Productions Best of Lollipop Records CD. But then I bought Hot Prod's version of the LP, and the mix was different. If I remember correctly, it had some weird synth or effects on it that made it from good to cheesy. Or maybe I'm thinking of 'I Wanna Play With You' sounding different. That's my favorite song from that LP. 'Discotheque' is okay for me.

Okay... At home where I can compare the two.

Original release - 1977 Ensign Records (same as Mercury releases)
    Side 1 Medley = 16'16"
    Side 2 = Venus 7'20"
    I Wanna Play With You = 5'37"
    Mah-Nah Mah-Nah Disco = 4'04"

    Moulton's US versions - 1978 Salsoul/Tom & Jerry Records
    Side 1 Medley = 17'20"
    Side 2 = I Wanna Play With You = 5'42"
    Venus = 7'25"
    Mah-Nah Mah-Nah = 4'07"

I prefer Tom Moulton's mix to the original version of the Lipstique LP, it's a bit smoother and somehow the music seems a bit more elegant in his mix.

Also I'd have to go with Jonathan Fearing's mix of D.D.Sounds "Cafe", I love how he turned it into a wonderfully exaggerated percussion break.

I have to agree with you on the Theo Vaness, the original import version, is so much better, if only for the intro of "Back To Music" with the female vocal countdown to 1978, that was taken out of the mix on the U.S. Prelude Lp version.
