Best From Artist 37 - Evelyn "Champagne" King

It's about time that Miss King got her respect here.
My picks are of course "Shame" and "I Don't Know If It's Right."
By the way, was "I Don't Know If It's Right" ever released as a strictly uptempo song. The version I have changes pace to something slower shortly after the song begins. I thought I heard the strictly uptempo version in a club before. Then again maybe it was the mix or cheeba or both :D

For me, without a doubt it would have to be 'Love Come Down' in particular and her 12" singles from late '81 to mid '83 or thereabouts. I couldn't wait to play them.
Strange thing is, I don't really remember them now, whereas 'Shame' is indelibly stamped into my grey matter, so that would have to have a plaudit too.

Ahh...Miss King - what a fine artists she is.

    My favorites are:
    I'm In Love
    High Horse
    Your Personal Touch
    Love Come Down
    If you want my lovin'

and also the rather unknown "Hold On To What You Got" from '88. At that time she started to flirt with house music, and the result was quite good

    My faves from Evelyn King.

    "Shame"
    "Love Come Down"
    "I'm In Love"

There is a 12" version of "I Don't Know If It's Right" which is different from the album version which is rather blah.

    You're welcome, Quinny.

Most of the early 80's stuff from Evelyn King was produced by Morrie Brown & Kashif.
They really had a very distinct sound. I know kashif's still recording on the Expansion label but I wonder who else M. Brown worked with??

I think I mentioned on an earlier thread that I really really like 'Spirit of the Dancer' from the 'Im In Love' LP.(& of course the title track is brilliant too). Everyone seems to love 'Shame' but i tend to feel its a tad over-rated; sorry guyz & gals to not agree with most people about this track.

I go for ''Til I Come Off The Road' (from 'Sweet Talk'), 'If You Want My Lovin'', 'Get Loose' (great b-line), 'Love Come Down' and 'I'm In Love', which I personally think kick-started a new New York sound. 'Shame' makes me pull my hair out (heard it just too many times but never particularly liked it in the first place)...but to paraphrase Faith, Hope & Charity, 'To Each His Own'...

Nobody's mentioned a fave of mine called "Till Midnight"--it's on the slow side, but I liked it. From around 1986, if I recall correctly.

"How can I find somebody new/ when I can't get over you/ feel alright / till about midnight"....

    or something like that.
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

You're right Marky...."Till Midnight" is great. It's from the "So Romantic" Album from 1984. I just bought it a few days ago.
Wonder if other versions of "Till Midnight" exist??

"Shame" and we have a new disco diva .
"Easy To Be Hard", it's 99,99 % the Evelyn "Champagne" King's voice.
"What are you Waiting for", a simple dance song but I like .
