    Instrumental ID please

Hi firstly sorry for the lack of audio sample.
This track was playing as I walked in to the room and I got the last 3 or 4 minutes until the DJ mixed it in to Thinking About Your Love - Skipworth And Turner. (So it's possible the first part had vocals).

The back beat was pretty constant throughout the bit I heard and very briefly I thought it sounded like a Brass Construction track (Think Movin') but I'm sure it's not.

The most distinctive part was a long funky flute section over the back beat (bit like the one in Expansions Lonnie Liston Smith) then I think there was a sax section after that.

The DJ was playing stuff from late 70's to mid 80's so I'm guessing, but can't be sure it's from that era.

    Thank in advance!

Nice shout but that's not it.
That kind of funky flute though. The beat was a little more steady by that I mean veering towards disco rather than towards funk. There were no vocals in all of the 3 or 4 minutes I heard.

    Herbie Mann comes to mind.

    Superman

    Hi-Jack

There are vocals, but there are also flute breaks.

There's other stuff by him from the disco era.

Thanks for those suggestions but it's none of those.

There were definitely no vocals for the 3 or 4 minutes of the song I heard.
No strings or anything. Just a pretty much constant beat all the way through with a funky flute playing for most of it and then I think some sax nearer the end.
It is possible that it may a more contemporary tune but everything the guy played was from I'd say 75-84.

Don't know if you're still searching, but was playing this today and your post came to mind.

    Gary's Gang - Let's Lovedance Tonight

The flute break comes in about 4:53, followed by a sax.

In 2007, Danny Krivit re-edited the song cutting the vocals and extending the flute break by a little. Quite possibly, you may have heard it looped.
    If this is it.

    Here's the Danny Krivit version.

Thanks for persevering but that's not it.
The main part of the song that sticks to mind is the flute.
The flute sounded similar to this:
YouTube - SO FLUTE - ST. GERMAIN
but the beat was a lot more disco/funk.
There wasn't a lot else to the tune except the sax part after the flute.
