    Good 1980 Disco Music--Any Later?

I was too young to experience disco firsthand, but I've always loved it. Some of my favorite disco music is from "the end" period.

"I Like What You're Doing To Me" by Young & Co.
"I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross
"Take Your Time (Do It Right)" by SOS
"Spacer" by Sheila and B. Devotion
"Can't Fake the Feeling" by Geraldine Hunt

The stuff from late '79 and '80 was great, as it cast off some what I'd call the cheesier aspects of earlier disco, an example of which is the backup vocals of Cher's "Take Me Home." The guitar, the bass, everything was great in these songs. Chic's influence of course was strong, and they produced great music.

Other great disco music was coming out. My favorite Village People song is "Milkshake" also from 1980, and from the wonderfully insane movie Can't Stop The Music.

But, after this point, I can't find anything. It's as if disco were wiped off the face of the earth! What did all of the disco-lovers do? Were there less-known groups still making true disco music after 1980? By true disco music, I'm talking hand-clapping, actual strongs, horns--you know, not HiNRG or something like that.

And believe me, I've looked! I've especially looked for music that's reminiscent of Chic's infectious tracks. Even today I think there'd be a great market for real disco music. Look at Alcazar, and their hits based on Chic or Change tracks.

    Hi!
Personally I think there were lots of great Disco records after 1980. We've been down this road many, many times already (even since August 2002 when I joined), so it may be worthwile checking out some of the old threads.
If I had to pick out 2 after 1980 that were absolute scorchers they'd have to be
    Rose Royce - R R Express '81
T Life - Something That You Do To Me (Keeps Turning Me On) '81

There's lots more, but at this time of night and with other records blasting into my ears via my headphones, it's difficult to think straight.

    Alec R Costandinos - Americana (1981)
    Odyssey - Inside Out (1982)
ABC - The Look Of Love (1982)
    Change - Paradise (1981)
Blowfly - The Girl Wants To **** (1981 - comical lyrics but musicly good orchestra disco on TK Records)

Patrick Cowley - Sea Hunt (1981)

thats some off the top of my head that isnt electronic disco and has the sound you were speaking of. Sea Hunt by Patrick Cowley is mostly electronic but has some elements of what your speaking of.

    Hello David,

I think I relate to your feelings. I started going to parties in 1979-80, thus I became hooked on the later disco sounds, say after Chic entered the scene. I always felt the "disco orchestra" records sounded way cheesy and dated by that time (even as I liked Donna's works). For example, I started to like numbers like The Ritchie Family when they tried to renew their sound ("Put your feet to the beat"), but most of them were already falling by the side of the road.
Anyway, in the 90's I re-discovered soul and specially the Philadelphia sound, from which that orchestrated disco style came out in the mid-70's. So, right now I'm re-evaluating those years and, in a way, closing a music circle...

I just wanted to put out my feelings about this. Of course, there's great disco music to hear in the 1980-83 period!
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

I recently hosted a "Bad Movie Night" at my place. I showed Black Belt Jones, Showgirls, and Can't Stop The Music. The first two were no problem, but nobody could get through CSTM.

But, after this point, I can't find anything. It's as if disco were wiped off the face of the earth!
It effectively was. In North America, disco became a dirty word in 1980. Almost overnight, nobody would even speak of it, except in ridicule.
