It was bound to happen sooner or later... Apple has now introduced variable pricing along with DRM-free and higher quality 256 kbps downloads. I can't wait till they just make everything Apple Lossless and be done with it-fat chance though as so many don't seem to care about sound quality.

Given how ruthlessly the dynamics are crushed on most modern mastering, I'm inclined to think that lossless is a moot point.
*sigh* We have more potential for high-quality audio than ever before, but overall quality is sliding further and further back...
