What about the first single release of Love To Love You Baby? I heard that it was a different mix from the version that was released after the song became a huge hit. Or is that a myth? Is that first issue mix available on CD?

I have a few Donna Summer compilations on cd, as well as several other compilations, but I hadn't found one with the exact version of "Heaven Knows" that was on the 7" vinyl. They all seemed to either not have the little violin intro or were missing the Brooklyn Dreams vocals, or both.
The other day I noticed her "The Journey" Best Of cd, and noticed that the track time for "Heaven Knows" looked about right. So I bought it, and it's the correct 7" version, and it's all there!![]()
I know, nothing super rare or unusual, but something I'd been looking for for a while. Definitely one of my favorite DS songs.

That's the OTHER Donna Summer I'd like to find. The 7" vinyl that I've got (and not purchased, new, until sometime in the late '80s or early '90s) is about 3:45, iirc, and is quite different than the 3:22 version that is on a couple of the cds I've got. That one (the 3:22) has a middle section that is taken from part(s) of the middle section of the 17 minute album version. The 7" that I have (and which I presume is the original song) doesn't have that.
On another disco forum that I was on for a bit several years ago (maybe a previous incarnation of this one?) someone mentioned the original 7" version being on a Time-Life "1976" cd. I purchased one of those recently, but it has the 3:22 version.
I *think* that the last portion of the album version from Love To Love You, Baby is actually the original single, and that the "extension" was all added to the beginning. The last part of the (album) song sounds pretty identical to my 7" vinyl, with the exception being that the initial "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII................. .. love to love you, baby..." isn't preceded by the "inhale", which is only at the very beginning of the song.
That's good to know. So I won't kill myself trying to find it, if it's already incorporated in the full LP version. They must have mixed the first single version, then extended it for the LP, liked stuff on the LP version, and re-edited a new single from that LP mix, using pieces from different places.
I have a Donna Summer 45 that I think was a reissue in the 80s that has a 4 minute edit of Love To Love You Baby on one side, and a 6 minute plus edit of MacArthur Park on the flip side.

That's my thought. From what I've read, Neil Bogart requested that an extended version be produced after the single had been done and released. It makes sense that a new(er) single edit would have incorporated some of the new material.
Hmmm. All of my 45s are boxed up right now, so I can't check, but I wonder if that's the release that I have. I don't know that I ever looked at the B-side since I already would have had "MacArthur Park" on an older compilation album when I bought the 45 for LTLYB.
The one that I have is the same as in this auction
Donna Summer - Love To Love You Baby / MacArthur Park
The label has two misprints on the MacArthur Park side. It misspells the song 'MAC ARHTUR PARK' and the running time is listed as 3:59, but it's definitely more than 6 minutes and it has the cold ending. It's the same as this youtube posting
The version of Love To Love You Baby that's on the single starts off like that third section of the LP mix, but at the stop it changes to an earlier part of the LP version and rounds out with the 'Love to love you baby baby, love to love you baby love tonight....' chorus.

I did some more "research" last night, and started a new thread. http://www.discomusic.com/forums/sho...rent-Versions)
Sounds like the vinyl version that you have may be the same or similar to the version that's on the Time-Life Sounds of the Seventies CD I just got.
