DISCO MIX
By Tom Moulton
June 26, 1976
[NEW YORK] ........
- Westbound is releasing the King Errisson new.”The Magic Man” LP, arranged and produced by Mike Theodore & Dennis Coffey. There are four strong cuts including the title song. The strongest ones, though, are both remakes of rock songs—”Dance With Me”, originally done by Orleans, and ”Listen To The Music,” first done by the Doobie Brothers. Both have lots of percussive instruments, steel drums and strong string arrangements.
”The Magic Man” has some traces of a Bohannon sound with a lot of percussive instruments and lots of sound effects.
”Every Day’s A Holiday” is the most commercial cut and has a nice happy, bouncy feel to it. ”Congo Man” is very African and will probably be the most popular in New York City.
weeee want the funk ......gotta have some funk !
....as Tom mentions: arranged ,produced , & partly written by Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore .In addition, listen for Merry Clayton, James Gadson, Patrice Rushen...
Love the TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY-like jabbing strings .....
It may have not charted ....but I remember this one well in the land of San Francisco disco .... summer into fall , 1976 ........ :icon_cool: :icon_cool: :icon_cool:
*****
not sure what this spacey airy song is about though ..... something about rum and gin and poppy seeds and things so you can fly ....................... "here comes the magic man"

OK ....so this one didn't take club land by storm... thanks for the support anyway Tom.![]()
But what could be expected? For one thing THE MAGIC MAN and all the other cuts on the album were each under four minutes..... all much too short by mid '76 standards. And Westbound seemed a slow label to catch on to this remix/12 inch concept that was grabbing hold .
But,
King Errisson ( still under the guidance of Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore) will yet have his night out in the clubs .... and will find his place yet on Marky's upcoming 1977 charts :icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin: ... where King E , Dennis C, and Mike T's impact will be pronounced .
Well, no wonder ....look ... for one thing Westbound's caught on and will release a 12" for him :
AND ..... look who 's been chosen to give the next release that particularly special disco mix quality ....
