    $1 LP Blowout Sale

Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend an LP Blowout sale where all the used vinyl was only $1.00/US Currency. There were also crates that contained LP's for $.50 cents. I spent a total of $30 and came home with 33 LP's. The surprising thing is many of these records were in mint condition where the album covers were beautiful and the records themselves were obviously never played. So much so, I bought 6 LP's I already have, however, I figured for $1 I could afford to replace. Here is a list of some of the gems I came home with:

Con Funk Shun - To the Max
Third World - Journey to Addis
    Quincy Jones - The Dude
    The Jacksons - Triumph
    Locksmith - Unlock the funk
    Diana Ross - Diana
    LTD - Togetherness
    LTD - Devotion
David Ruffin - In my Stride
Jr. Walker & The All-Stars - Greatest hits
    The Original - California Sunset
    Mandrill - Mandrill Is
The Undisputed Truth - The Undisputed Truth
Dionne Warwick - The pick of
    Stevie Wonder - Greatest Hits/Volume 2
Cornelius Bros. & Sister Rose - Cornelius Bros. & Sister Rose
    Tavares - In the city
The Main Ingredient - Greatest hits
The Miracles - Greatest hits (This one was still
    sealed)
Michael Jackson - Off the wall
Earth, Wind & Fire - That's the way of the world
    Switch - Switch
    Brass Construction - Brass Construction
Pockets - Come go with us
Earth, Wind & Fire - All 'n all
    Billy Ocean - Greatest hits
    Carole King - Tapestry
Simple Red - Men and women

Among a few more that were not really Soul, Funk or Disco related. 33 LP's for $30 is good anytime, however, considering the content of my purchase, I'd say it was better than good. :D What do you think?

    Job well done, Sammy!! :)

Getting stuff like Locksmith and Mandrill for just $1 is a very good deal.
They're extremely expensive over here (if you can find 'em)

The 1978 LTD album is a classic and includes the great dancer "Holding On" ....good vocals by Jeffrey Osborne before he went solo (and MOR)

Most of the others are great too, allhough not rare. But always remember: it's the music - not the rarity - that counts.
    There was life after disco!!

K-Bee, I couldn't have said it any better. I have enough rare items in my collection, however, rare doesn't equate to good. To be able to get Mandrill, Locksmith, The Undisputed Truth, The Main Ingredient etc. on vinyl in mint to very good condition is a rarity to me. Glad you liked the list. Next time there is a $1 sale I'll let you know in case there is a specific item you are looking for I can possibly find for you. Till then...

Paul, to comment on the Switch LP, as they sang on that very album "They'll never be" another one like this one. This is one I purchased to replace an older copy I already had. I would gladly send you my original if you'd like. Just e-mail me if you are interested. Gold at bargain basement is right on.

    Sammy,

Some nice stuff you picked up. If you like Pockets, then pick up their "So Delicious" album and check out "Catch Me."

How's the Mandrill LP? Is it on Arista? I always loved "Having A Love Attack" from '78.

Damn, Sammy. Was that sale up here in New Jersey? I have got to give you my contact info :D . I just bought a Jr. Walker Greatest Hits for a lot more than $1.00. Plus, anything by Undisputed Truth would get my money. :)

Bernie, I do have that Pockets LP you mentioned. Underrated indeed; I bought this one as a replacemnt copy because you know 'Come go with me' gets alot of spins. :)
As for the Mandrill LP, it is from '71 and it is on Polydor. More on the early funk, soul, latin side. Features 'Ape is high' and 'Cohelo'; Very good LP.

NickNack, this is the second sale like this in the last six months. The show was in Allentown, PA. Probably not that far from you and definitely worth the ride. I'll make sure to let you know when the next one is. I get a card in the mail whenever they will have one. The Jr. Walker I bought for $1 was in great condition and the cover is in beautiful condition. Sorry you missd out, stay tuned.

No problem Paul. Just make sure you indicate on the subject line that your e-mail is about the Switch LP. I do not open any e-mail I do not know.
